Re: 1519 - Video of 10 Laps in 60 Seconds...

I feel like this robot is going to be extremely successful. 20 Laps is 40 pts lol, thats if you can make that many with bots on the field, but still 15 laps is 30pts. Keep in mind the winning scores from the Shake down scored 44 and 50 points as an alliance. 'Nuf Said.

1.5 laps in Hybrid mode = 24 more points

Thanks for the kudos on the empty track performance.

We're also concerned about what we'll be able to attain on a crowded track -- we'll find out for sure at our week 1 regional!

Are you concerned about maneuverability? Your robot is extremely fast, but it seems like it's quite squirrelly/hard to control as it exits the turn around the lane divider.

Seems like it might make avoiding other robots somewhat difficult, though I'm sure practice will greatly help, with a robot that fast.

I like the car steering, but how fast can it go backwards if it runs into something? the car steering doesn't help the turning radius according to my beliefs.

Ho. Lee. Cow.

That's pretty good, and once your driver really gets good control (not bad now, but give some practice...) you'll be going around the traffic jams.

Very nice.

The car steering definitely makes for a bigger turning radius than a robot using tank drive (which could spin in place). However, the turning radius is surprisingly small -- at slow speed, the robot can drive a figure eight sideways across the field under the overpass.

Regarding how fast it can go backwards -- we have an embarrassingly entertaining "blooper video" of a backwards driving episode that we'll try to get online within a couple days after crating the robot!

You're absolutely right -- when the video was filmed, the drivers were definitely having trouble exiting the 180-degree turn at the correct instant to have the robot headed straight down the track. In the time since the video was shot we have tweaked the PID loop for the steering a little to increase the precision of the steering, which has helped the drivers do better at exiting the turn at the proper instant. More practice is helping, as well.

We hope to be able to get some "obstacle avoidance" laps filmed, too!

Re: 1519 - Video of 10 Laps in 60 Seconds...

holy cow... that's one FAST robot... barely looks big enough to have all the RC/Victors/Radio/Motors/Etc that it needs to run... I'd be worried about a big scary robot like my team's coming and rolling right over it... I'd be afraid our tracks would gobble that thing right up.

Kudos on the speed though, Wow, I didn't know the CIMs could do that.
