Erm...didn't you send your robot out already? Not really a good time for modifications, is it?

Re: weight problems anyone?

We're pretty darn close,we shipped at 119 something, and are already planning to lighten some things up upon arrival. But we're better off than we've been in the past (not 7 lbs over).

Re: weight problems anyone?

We have been brain storming as to how to lighten the bot. We've got a big list on the whiteboard. We even get as specific as removing xx bolt, etc etc. It's amazing when you look at the robot and think "but we can't TAKE any more out".... then someone comes up with some way to shave off another .5 kilogram.

Re: weight problems anyone?

Last year we were about 12 pounds over and the captian gave everyone a drill and said "Start drilling my friends" This is the first year out of 5 that we are under 4 pounds. We used cad and 3ds max to calculate how much our bot would weigh.

Thumbs up Re: weight problems anyone?

Our robot weighs 128 lbs with the battery and the bumpers attached, so we should be around ten pounds under weight.

Re: weight problems anyone?

we weighed our piece midway through the season and It came out something like

base: 60 lbs
forklift: 30 lbs
manipulator: 8 lbs

we figured we were fine until the friday before ship where we weighed it at a veterinarian's office on a dog scale to find 12 lbs overweight. The next day we had one person with a 1/4 in. drill bit, one with a 1/2 in drill bit, and another with a 27/32 in. drill bit going in a line down the sides of our forklift. We also started drilling into our frame because we figured 80/20 is strong enough to take a few holes in it.

we didn't get to weigh it after we started drilling holes so we're still a little scared about our weight and have a few people brainstorming ideas.

Re: weight problems anyone?

Like the others have said most teams drill holes on stable parts but don't make it unstable.

Re: weight problems anyone?

Isn't there another thread about Robot weight this year? Anyway, 119.2 119.6 lb as of just before ship. Or 54.0682105 54.2496475 kg, from Google Search.

Re: weight problems anyone?

We were a few pounds over but after we did the final run through of final parts needed on the bot we were actually a few under. The problem is, it seems that our bot gains a few pounds in the crate. Maybe a miscalibrated scale

Re: weight problems anyone?

As a matter of fact I DO have to lose a few pounds..........

Oh, sorry, you mean the ROBOT.

We still have room for a McDonald's Quarter Pounder, as long as it's without cheese.

Re: weight problems anyone?

we are 22 lbs underweight, but we added 18 lbs of weight to help tipping problems.

Much better then last year, where we where 8lbs over weight.

Re: weight problems anyone?

our robot weighs 67.3 lbs (30.5267665 kilograms) before bumpers and battery, and a little over 87 with everything on it...let me just say we're really confused about it
