: Also, one of the last qualifying matches had Team Hammond (a.k.a. Beatty) losing a match thirty something to thirty something. As Bill and Brian tell it, they had the match won but for a last minute fall (off the bar or the ramp -- can't recall) by their alliance partner. I am sorry that I missed that match!
We were paired with Beatty-Hammond during our last qualifying match at the Midwest Regional. Brian & I agreed that we would go for as many points as possible... for our team and our opponent (but still win, of course). We got 8 balls from the HP and hung, with plenty of room for opponents robots to hang also.
Beatty, in the mean time, was collecting balls left and right, dumping them in both goals. Where we messed up was underestimating that BOTH of our opponents had room to hang. With three on the bar, the fine Beatty-Hammond machine didn't quite have room to be on the ramp. It turned out that we were about 6 inches away from a 36-31 win!
