IR might be fried

When we were programming our bot with our IR board, all 5 lights lit up. So we turned the robot off and turned it back on, and then the IR board was unresponsive, and thats where we are now....anyone have any suggestions or do you think it was just blown some how

Re: IR might be fried

i dont know wat u did to ur board but our team took a saftey step to insure our ir board wont burn out we have a toggle switch on our robot that powers the robot so u dont get a huge surge of power to ur board. we have to turn on our robot then the ir board to turn it on and to turn it off we turn off the ir board then the robot. we put it on let three weeks ago and it has not burn once and works the way we want it to. i wont sugguest a toggle switch or something to that effect

See Team Update #10. [url="http://www.usfirst.org/community/frc/content.aspx?id=450"]
Reprogramming the board might bring it back to life. I imagine there will be people with programmers at the regionals.

There is a manual for the IR board so I would assume it has something in there to help you out. Those FIRST guys...they think of every situation..

Re: IR might be fried

we connected our IR to a 20 amp breaker, but try reprogramming it, if that doesn't work I do believe that there are going to be people at the regionals able to fix problems

At the Arizona Regionals, this coming weekend, Team #2449 will have a portable PIC programmer available. (and I wouldn't be suprised if Team #39 will also have one, as Frank Neuperger has done quite a bit of research into this anomaly ... here's a link to his post discussing his results)

We took a different (cheaper) approach, and after following the advice found in this thread, we made the cable and used the freeware to successfully reprogram our PIC.

No guarantees, but we can re-upload the HEX file for a team in need and hopefully resolve their board problems. It worked like a charm for us.

Good Luck all, and we'll see ya' Thursday morning!
