Re: Team 25 2008 Unveiling

A lot of the questions are pretty similar, so I'm going to group together the answers.

Regarding obtaining the ball:
Yes, we pick up the ball by pushing it up against an obstacle. The practice segment at the beginning of the video was just sloppy driving . Our drivers have had some practice since then.

Hurdling:
The tipping seen in the video was a result of the driver making a hard stop. Our speed controls have been modified, and the entire launch process is activated by a single button press by our driver. This allows for one fluid motion, as Tottanka mentioned.

Placing the ball:
This is accomplished by regulating the mast speed on our "magic - more magic" dial.

Re: Team 25 2008 Unveiling

the repeated movies were practice rounds 1-2-3-4 etc.

yes- we pick up from pushing into an object- and we are always 4-6 ft from something. Don't be disappoiinted because we aren't. There is less to break and I am sure we will see arms and fingers bending all over the place in this game. Also- it allows all our rookie partners to load us from behind and keep going. We practiced with push bots running laps and feeding balls into the quadrant and easily hurdled 5 in 2 minutes. In the practice rounds we were trying to shoot the ball into the practice base or catch it on the bounce. It kind of works- for the off season fun!

In practice we have gotten up to 7 hurdles in a 2 minute round. Obviously that will be less in real life.

Our auto lap is 10 secs and on a good run we make 1.5 laps plus knocking 2 balls off.

This is the simplest robot we have made in a long time- but also one of the most effective. See you all on the floor.

Re: Team 25 2008 Unveiling

Great hurdling, but I will echo what others have said, I worry about your ability to acquire the trackballs. Someone could pretty easily push the ball out of the way while you're trying to push it into a wall / an object. That being said, the hurdling device is slick and being able to do that without stopping at the overpass will be a huge advantage.

Unless Wayne C stops by one day that's pretty much impossible. 25 registered for NJ and Hawaii this year.

Re: Team 25 2008 Unveiling

we've played against team 25 in 06,07 and now 08. We've never played with them, only against them during practice, in matches and in the playoffs. I think we are like 0-10.
Yet, they are as far away as two teams can be in the US.

Just kidding.........kind of planned since we went to NJ, partially due to them, and we'll see them in Hawaii too. Maybe with the new algorithm this year, we can be partners for a change AND glad your coming to Hawaii!

Yeah, I really don't see why a lot of people keep bringing up those points. I totally agree that not much if anything at all can go wrong with that 'bot. And I'm sure that 25 already thought about the loading thing when they designed the robot...its 25, i mean come on, I'm pretty sure they don't design robots without thinking lol . Also, you guys always have great drivers which is something great about your team. So can't wait

Yeah I don't doubt the genius behind the design one bit..

but

I do think there are other genius designs too that may be even more effective

that atonomous sounds great, especially if you can knock off the correct balls in autonomous heh.. just hope nobody gets in your way

Re: Team 25 2008 Unveiling

one of the nicest features of their machine, besides their lifting mechanism, is that every device on their machine fits within the framework, and thus, doesn't risk getting beat up in pushing matches. Aside from the mechanical failures that we all could encounter, I don't see much happening to their machine out on the field.

Watching them hurdle is truly a sight to behold (we got to see it at their school the day before ship)

But cant that be said with just about any collection device? And since manipulator contact outside the footprint is legal and expected I anticipate seeing all the long fingers and arms getting entangled and bent with ease. Of course if you are wasting time chasing us to keep the ball away then you aren't hurdling either. Believe me- the collection is MUCH easier than our original attempt in the beginning of the video shows (Thats why we put it there)

Time and performance will tell.

Looks great as usual. I hope to see it in the elims Sat after my red eye flight back from San Jose. I'd like to see you get together with Cybersonics again and do the 3peat thing.

PS I know 103 already has the 3peat, but it would be cool to see alliance partners pull it off.

What's the drive train setup?
Obviously, 6 big (custom?) wheels. I was confused as to how many CIM's you have on the drive.
Also, I was wondering what's the top speed - I'm guessing about 10 ft/sec.

Oh yeah, awesome bot. Very impressive control over hurdling. I was also impressed by the diagonal hurdle today at Jersey.
Can't wait to see you guys in Hawaii.

I loved that hurdle. If i remember correctly, it bounced off another robot (us?) and then almost went out of the field. It was spectacular to watch them and 103 hurdle as well.
