Re: Brett Favre

Truly a sad day for sport. A well-deserved rest for Mr. Favre, though. Since he's got this spare time now, look for him at the Wisconsin Regional.

Re: Brett Favre

One of our staff traveled north to Green Bay in January. She loves the Packers and it has been a dream of hers for many years to see Mr. Favre play. For her it was a courageous adventure. She had to take off from work, travel solo (she had never done that),fly into Indianapolis, and drive to Wisconsin. In the stadium, she sat surrounded by Packers' fans. From all around her, folks could see her burnt orange stocking cap and would holler, 'Hey Texas! Having a good time?!' She felt like she was right at home. Her eye lashes grew icicles that she would have to clean off, formed from the moisture created in the scarves around her face. She had so many layers on in the -5 degee/-42 degree wind chill temp - that she felt like a walking marshmellow. She loved every incredible moment of that football game.

Today, she sent out an email with the retirement announcement attached, thanking all of us for supporting her on this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. She is as thrilled today as she was on that special day. I'm glad she found the courage to step out of her comfort zone and experience opportunity and adventure, celebrating a hero.

I understand that very well. I'm a member of the FIRST community.

Re: Brett Favre

Many of us near his home town in Mississippi are also saddened that he has decided to retire. He's been a great quarterback for the many years he has played for the Green Bay Packers, and will surely be missed by people all around the United States, and possibly the world.

Thats pretty good, but would you believe that I have a better story? Most of Australia likes the Packers, why I am not exactly sure. There was an Australian couple who sold their house, and quit their jobs so they could fly up to green bay to see Favre and the Packers play. Most of these things will most likely end though. I am curious as to how many people outside of WI will actually follow the Packers.

boiler - That would be really cool, but I really doubt it will happen

On a sad note:
Today Brett Favre attended a funeral with his daughter, so noone has actually talked with him, outside the message he sent to Chris Mortensen. Well, one of our local news stations decided they should fly someone down to Mississippi. Right now they are waiting outside of his house for him to return from the funeral. Come on, the guy just made a HUGE decision. Give him some time. He will have a press conference when he feels ready. There is absolutly no reason to go wait outside his house.

Personally, I have been a die-hard fan since I was able to understand the game (like when I was six). I pretty sure that Alex Cormier is a fan too based on the NFL pick'em threads.
