Match Music

I haven't seen much discussion about the music played for the matches. I've seen some comments about music this year vs. last year, but we never get into specifics. And although I'm approaching grandpa age, I understand how important in a lot of ways that music is for the participants, because I'm affected in the same way, I think... )

Which leads me to ask - what makes good match music? How does the music affect the match, and your experience? Is the type important? Volume? What do you think...

Post a link of any examples so we can all share our taste in music.

Sam

Here's one suggestion I have. The type of music is Electronica, of a subtype known as 'Bass and Drums'. I like several of these things, but this one I think is really interesting.

The page the link leads to has several tracks, and most are not appropriate in my opinion. But one is different, and that one is the track called 'No School'. It's way too long for a single match, maybe for two or three..

Gee Samuel, What timing! My team is discussing this very issue, because we are preparing for our invitational, the Ford Sweet Repeat in September. We decided to include music that everyone would like, even the old farts!

I have noticed, as I'm sure you all have, that the music reaches a fever pitch, in both volume and intensity of music when matches are more intense, or when we are in the finals. More soothing music seems to materialize during lunch and in between matches. When nothing much is going on, maybe a little slow...we hear something silly like 'YMCA', where the audience can participate a little.

I think the appeal of the music FIRST plays is universal, not to everyone at the same time, but that enough music is played so that all tastes can be satisfied.

I liked the mix that was played at the Zeeland competition (which by the way was a BLAST!), because they included stuff that I actually knew...old things from Santana, and some of the great bands of the 70's.

We plan to include a wide variety of music at the Ford Sweet Repeat, plus we are planning the volume changes and the intensity of the tunes for specific occurrences throughout the day.

By the way, if any of you out there are planning to attend, and would like specific tunes included in our mix, please let us know, and we'll add them!

Everyone who knows me, knows that there is nothing that gets me goin more when im on the field than the song 'Cotton Eyed Joe' =) I agree, music does help, it helps people loosen up on the field when they can dance and sing to the songs and stuff, and get their minds off the chaos to come
Good Luck,
Andy Grady, Team 42

Yeah, I remember 1998 as the 'Year of YMCA' ...must have heard it a trillion times between the NE Regional and the Nats. This year, I heard it maybe 3 times? I'm not even sure if that many.

Lora
