not 'invitation'.. but on you have to qualify for them, yes...

however.. i think the only way to implement that would be to make more events for the qualifying process.. i.e... it all can't be laid on the line by one competition..

if FIRST was structured kinda like high school sports.. you play within your area, then state (maybe not applicable now).. then regional.. then possibly a larger-area covering regional, then nationals... i think key to this whole process and helping kids learn more is being able to compete more.. you sometimes learn more in those 3 days than in the 6-weeks of building.. and i think everyone would enjoy having more chances at competition...

however, i think to pull that off.. the concept favored by the likes of Bastoni back in the day of keeping the same competition for multiple years would have to be put into effect..

that may or may not have made sense.. flux fumes have taken effect
