That's probably because 294 and 1717 were in finals last year, and 968 was well known there as well. the other alliance only had only one high profile team most SD teams know of (330); although, they really should've known of 987.... Both are amazing teams. I'm guessing it was just 3 familiar teams (maybe 2 1/2, 294 was in finals last year, but not very noticeable) vs 1.

Re: Most Exciting Final?

The SD finals had not one, not two, but three former/defending world champions. 294 (2001) faced off against 987 (2007) and 330 (2005, and the only one to have been on Einstein twice). Also, 968 was a world finalist in 2006. I hear the matches were intense, to say the least. Haven't seen them yet, though.

Re: Most Exciting Final?

so far, from what i've seen (MW, NJ, VCU, AZ, and KC) i have to say Midwest was the best, not that it was exciting just to watch 111 v 1114. not because 1114 and 1024 could put up HUGE numbers in hybrid, not because of their strategy, but because it was FATHER v SON. i totally loved the storyline, i believe in what Karthik said last year at waterloo, no matter who's playing, every match as a story, and to reveal this story about two mentors on 111 fathering two mentors on 2041 was a amazingly good storyline to follow for the finals

the storyline for each match can be something amazing almost as exciting as the matches themselves. i look forward to see if 1305 can get past their (what is it now 8 elimination rounds) streak of falling to the heals of 1114. Waterloo and GTR will be VERY entertaining.

As a member of Team 1717, I know that our alliance really appreciated all of the support we received from other teams. It was a great joy to be able to be a part of such an energized and vivacious crowd, all cheering us on. Thanks again to all of the teams that came down and celebrated with us.

Best of luck to all teams for the rest of the season. We look forward to seeing you in Los Angeles and Atlanta!

You have no idea how good it feels to be on the other side of that win too. The 2007 San Diego finals was epic as well--going down to the last second in the final match and 330 took away a great win, but the opposite just happened this year.
I can't wait until Los Angeles to see what it has in store.

I guess this just goes to show how competitive the west coast is.

I saw the midwest webcasts and thought no regional could top it; I was wrong. The SD finals were that good. 4 Elite level teams and the matches being decided in the last seconds by clinch moves? Cmon, can't beat that.

Re: Most Exciting Final?

Nothing will compare with the finals matches at Midwest. There you had Wildstang on one alliance (111, 1243, 1504) facing a 2nd year team from Chicago with my son and Raul's son mentoring on the other alliance (1024, 1114, 2041). The tension was excruciating. Who do you cheer for??!? Which side of the field to stand on? Who are you going to celebrate with? Which alliance are you going to watch? How many matches will it take to decide?? Well it only took two, the son's alliance won. That alliance really was a great collection of robots and drivers. Now they qualify for the Championship in Atlanta and just need to raise the money.

Re: Most Exciting Final?

If you weren't there in San Diego to view the finals, you missed a treat. By far the BEST finals I have ever seen! I thought Team 987 The High Rollers had the BEST designed robot. Going undefeated is difficult and they did just that. Great team, great coaches, players and members! I haven't viewed the Midwest finals so I can't vote for them. I feel that going the 3 matches to determine the win was a great drama builder. You could feel the stress, tension, and drama. We had just about every team down by the rail cheering! I mean Cheering VERY loud! "Blue Alliance!!!" It was very cool to see the teams rallying on their alliance. Oh....and how about those dancers? Team 1671 "The Blizzard" had some nice dancers. Did you see them on the jumbo screen?

It was a great final! I will treasure the memory forever.

Heck, no. I did trade them a 108:1 42mm Banebots transmission. Hardly top secret.

Re: Most Exciting Final?

I attended San Diego Regional and watched the Midwest Regional webcast.

I actually thought the MWR Semi-Final 2 (1114, 1024, 2041) vs (1625, 16, 648) was more exciting that the MWR Final. There were four fast, excellent hurdling robots involved and it took three matches to decide the semis.

The SD Regional was a crazy shootout in the first two matches and a total brawl in the rubber match. The extended "zebra conference" after the third match added to the tension. San Diego was the "da bomb"!

For people who say the MWR was the most exciting final (although the father/son rivalry does make it interesting) and haven't seen the SD Finals... you should watch:

Navigate to "videos" and the 2008 SD Finals

Re: Most Exciting Final?

I saw Midwest, NJ, and San Diego.

San Diego was by far the best finals.

I agree with David that MWR SF with 1024 1114 1625 and 16 was much better than the MWR finals.

wow I just watched the finals in SD, hands down the best matches of the year so far... and people said Overdrive couldn't be exciting, watching four amazing hurdlers in 330, 987 vs. 968, 1717 go at it is very exciting. Atlanta is certainly going to be interesting this year!
