Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
Eh heh, having trouble...
We encountered some troubles with our superstructure today; pipes that were supposed to be screwed together weren't, causing everything above the chassis to shake apart on the field. (For those who didn't see: yes, everything.) We jettisoned our forks and focused on lapping, which appeared to work well in our later practice matches. A few more quirks worked out, and we should be prepared to have some fun. (Especially if we execute that one plan we keep talking about...) Apologies to those who had to move us (or our various pieces of field debris) aside, Billfred |

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
Team 1629 did quite well we had some minor issues that were all worked out and began to really get rolling in our last two practice macthes, we also got 4 almost 5 lines in hybrid, and ,managed 7 laps in one of the earlier matches (i believe tied for most laps on the day). we also got the ole catapolt up and running and managed to crush a smaller robot, sorry 1195,so all in all a good day

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
Team 2016 had trouble in the beginning not knowing that we were missing a gear on one side of the robot
eventually fixed it and were able to get 10 laps in the 2:15 min round. we are greatly looking forward to tomorrows qualifying rounds. |

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
Our bot was good this year, but we were well, limited by our team mates in 3 of the 8 rounds.... I'm not saying they're bad, it's just that they got in the way of the objective, scored massive amounts of penalties, and blocked us (literally) from moving. We went from 4th to 32nd.... Which made me think about the ranking system that FIRST uses. I do not like the way robots are ranked based on their team mates performance. It's not fair that your robot is ranked upon the team winning. Example being, let's say you have a good bot, it's potential is limited by your team mates. Your rank goes WAY down. I thought that most of the teams had figured this out, and weren't judging by rank for alliance selection... But for alliance selection, only 2 teams outside of the top 24 were selected. Which leads me to believe that those top 8 bots simply looked at the score boards and picked whoever was in the top 24... :/
I'm just saying, the ranking system could be so much better. |

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
Benhulett, I think it may be telling that the winning alliance consisted of the number 10, 21 and 43 ranked teams. Some people may ignore doing any scouting, but they tend to lose.

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
Hoo, what a ride.
For the first time in five years, I'm not worried about our on-field performance. Qualification rounds did us few favors--those two three-on-two rounds were not my idea of fun--but we kept making consistently great runs after a lousy practice day. I had my hopes up for us to get picked, but I could tell as the second draft round progressed that market wasn't quite right for lapping robots in a regional so large. It happens. Still, to see that spark in our newbie-heavy team made the whole exercise worthwhile. This is our first regional beyond Palmetto (and our only of 2008), and it was great to play at last with teams I've known of for years (see also: 341, 709, 836) and some I've only recently crossed paths with (see also: 88*, 359, 1027, 1111). Much thanks to all of our partners, all the teams who helped us out with those odds and ends that didn't quite hit the road with the team, and of course thanks to the volunteers that put up with our antics of last-minute queuing and pipe-scattering along the way. I hope we make this trip a regular feature of our season. *Oh yeah? OH YEAH! |

Wow. I would like to start by just how much fun this regional was. Whether it was the qualification matches or the social or the finals, everything was exciting. Thanks so much to 1418 & 11, great strategy and awesome time. Thanks to everyone who came to the social as well, i hope you all had some fun. Thanks to all the volunteers that made this event possible. Hope to see everyone back next year.

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
Team 339 had a great time. That quarter-final (all four matches of it) was very intense and exciting.
Thanks to 614 and 359 for helping us put up one heck of a fight. |

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
2199 reporting in.
@1895- yeah i know exactly which match your talking about, it wrecked us bad too. We had loaned them transmissions to get them moving and helped them fix their pnuematics too. it doesn't matter though, its over now Also, i agree that the selection process was a bit strange as to why certain teams picked other teams, but as was pointed out earlier, the best rose to the top. The regional on the whole seemed quieter and tamer this year ( this was my fourth visit to chessie) with some of the big teams missing. (Buzz for example) In general though we had fun, had a good, penalty free bot and learned a lot. And many congrats to the winners ![]() |

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
339 and 359, driver of 614 here. I thought we did great but it was pretty unfortunate that our coil jumped the pulley for the back arm. Having to queue up quickly between matches and not getting much repair time since we had 4 matches was pretty rough.
Unfortunately, that was probably my last year of directly competing since I will graduate high school this year, but I plan on mentoring team 614 next year so will hopefully see you all again |

That is exactly why scouting is so important. In my own honest opinion, some teams were great and some teams were indeed slected b/c of their rank (WRONG THING TO TRUST). Seeding CAN NOT HELP YOU DETERMINE ANYTHING IF YOU ARE THE ONE SELECTING. Scouting is a crucial part of any winning team's strategy. For example, 2590 picked us and 1980-not the highest seeded of the bunch but we rose to being finalists at Trenton. Same thing went on here. Looks like 1418 did their scouting and knew what they were doing. We were a top scorer in our matches according to scouting and watching our robot but faired poorly with other robots. This is totally not a kick at the alliance partners we had though. Everyone who helped was great and that's how we got to the top. Also, thank you guys for your congrats as well. I totally loved 1418 and 2016. They have a really nice group of students who were completely cooperative and worked so well with us. On another note, I'm still really happy about all this, but what is up with Championships? Does anyone know of some type of meeting or conference the planning committee may have? That would be wonderful info to get. Thank you so much 1418 and 2016 again. Also thank you very much 75 and 1980 and numerous other teams who were cheering for either us or our alliance, it really meant a lot. |

Re: 2008 Chesapeake Regional
Its plain and simple. MORT was on steroids during the playoffs.
Given the outcome and how they played, they were the best bot during the elim matches. Doing it all over again, has them the #1 pick. |

I totally forgot about our opposing alliance. I was seriously terrified about the final matches because they were highly competitive and so intense. By far the most exciting matches I've seen this year just because of how close some of them were. |
