Re: 2008 Boilermaker Regional

Boilermaker was great this year. I was really impressed by all the teams, especially the rookies. Big props to 2368 for being in a drafting position at the end of the Qualifying matches, that's a great opportunity for a rookie! I was also impressed by 1741's success this year. Congrats on the Motorola Quality award, and the sucker on your gripper is tight. I, as a scouter, don't usually see tons of teams using a sucking device well, but your guys' robot was great!

Re: 2008 Boilermaker Regional

Wow, what a great week. Team 2040 wants to thank everyone involved in making the Boilermaker Regional a great success. It was our first visit to the BR, and the entire team had an awesome time.

Special thanks to 2368 for choosing us as an ally, and to 931 for the amazing knockoff/place right at the end, incredible! Tough luck making it to the semifinals, only to face 111, 1024 and 876..

This was my first year with FIRST and I can say that I am foolishly looking forward to the next 6 weeks...

Thanks to all involved for an incredibly exciting week!

Re: 2008 Boilermaker Regional

Thanks to you wonderful Guys and Gals from Purdue for making the
Boilermaker the fabulous competition it is. You were graciously professional
letting us have that all important "pit time" even though you were very
very tired of a long day.

Thanks also to our great alliance friends (Blue and Red) for a magnificent
finish to this killer lineup of great bots.

Thought you would like to know what all the craziness was at during the
finals in the 1024 Robot. Well it wasn't smoke this time, it was a sudden
lack of 5 Volts! If you ever looked in our robot it looks like the old Telephone
switch boards of days gone by. We had only one shot and that was to
pull the controller. BIG BIG THANKS TO PIKE 1018 FOR THE LOAN OF
THEIR CONTROLLER. Gracious Professionalism goes on. With the sweaty
palms of Mentors and Students the robot went back out in time to finish.

We had quite a few 5 line autonomous thanks to all the teams running
this week in autonomous themselves. It keeps traffic flowing and everyone
runs up a nice score in autonomous. Makes the crowds and the teams
happy.

By the way remember autonomous is a very lucky event. Sort of like
landing on Mars with a working robot. Everything has to work. Batteries,
motors, gearboxes, encoders, gyros, cameras etc etc. If you get wind
to your back you make it other wise you can watch your robot spin in
circles or worse drive backwards or crash into walls. But always always
try to do it. Its a lot of fun watching your robot score points for your team.

Look forward to seeing our friends at Cleveland! Whew four days off
and back at it again. Robot asked us for a week off, guess not.

Thanks again Pike and all the teams who were there at the
Incredibly Exciting BOILERMAKER 2008!

Welcome to FIRST, and congratulations! It appears you are hooked. I'm going to guess you meant to say you're looking forward to the 2009 FRC build season?

Your team built a solid scoring machine for 2008 -- for those at other regionals I would describe it as a pallet-loader / placekicker. Very reliable and effective hurdler. I enjoyed inspecting your robot at Boilermaker, and was thrilled when our teams were selected to join the same alliance for the eliminations. Thank you, 2368!

About that one-in-a-million shot: I'm hoping that TBA will get Boilermaker video soon so others can see it. Watching the blue ball sail up, knock away the red bonus, and then settle onto the overpass as the buzzer sounded -- well, that was a moment to look back on for quite a while. Of course, we planned it just that way!

FYI, I have DVDs of both St. Louis and Boilermaker Regionals house feeds. Each one is a 4 disk set consisting of Friday morning, Friday afternoon, Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon.

Also, Congratulations to teams 111, 1024, and 876! You were a great alliance!

Re: 2008 Boilermaker Regional

Wow, what a regional. Congratulations to the winning alliance of 111, 1024, and 876 for beating us in the semi-finals and eventually going on to win the whole thing (by 4 points in the final match!)

This was quite an event for our team. Last year was not the greatest year for us and we hadn't been in the elimination rounds since our 2006 year, so being drafted by the number 5 seed was amazing. Thank you team 1741 and 2171 for seeing us the lap runner you wanted for your alliance.

Thanks to the volunteers that made the event happen too, it was another great year at BMR.

Mr.D : I almost asked this in a PM , but I thought the answer might pertain to more people than me.

Is there any way we can purchase a copy of the Purdue video? I'm sure all of us at 1024 would love to have a copy, as it seems the webcast didn't (or rarely) worked.

Thanks (twice-over ),

Yes, I will be happy to provide a copy of either Regional to anyone who asks at no charge.

I am making the copies on DVD+R disks. If you could bring blank disks, that would be great. This is however not a requirement, I will provide copies either way upon request.

Re: 2008 Boilermaker Regional

I have to say that Indiana and the Purdue folks throw a wonderful regional. I had a great time, all the teams were wonderful, the competition was fierce but everyone was friendly and gracious. Congratulations to the rookies who all brought some very good machines and great people.
The alliance of 1327, 45 and 461 were spectacular. All three teams worked so well together they were very hard to beat.
Thanks to all the help we had in the finals from our alliance partners 1024 and 876 and 1018 for that rush job to get 1024 back in the game with a replacement RC. 1024 has one of the fastest machines and the best auto mode I have seen this year. 876 has a great machine and super team. I hope you all survived the long bus trip home to North Dakota safely.

Question Re: 2008 Boilermaker Regional

Lost and Found:
My daughter lost a large black book called "Eclipse" in the stands.
Please let me know if anyone found it.

Update: It was turned in to the Lost and Found! Thanks to who ever turned it in...

PS>
The Boilermaker Regional was great - (thanks for adding power in the practice area - we lived there most of the time). Hope to see some of you at IRI in July.

Boilermaker was so much fun, even though we lost one of our arms almost every match... It turns out that the glue was bad, and that the PVC wasn't very strong.

I would also like to thank Team 1000 and 447 for a great alliance in the finals!

I hope to see some of you at Great Lakes and Atlanta!

Re: 2008 Boilermaker Regional

Boilermaker sounds like it was another exciting time this year. What an amazing roster! St. Louis was great (except for the drive), but I miss visiting Purdue this year.

Since the FIRST site still isn't listing BMR awards, can anyone provide a list? I'm specifically interested in those brave souls heading north to West Michigan to compete in two of the most exciting regionals anywhere back to back: 234 (Chairmans I know, congrats!), 1000, 2015, and 2171.
Thanks in advance.

To the rest of you BMR teams, come on up and watch us! I think this weekend will end up being a great show.
