What modeling program did you use?

Posted by Andrew Keisic.

Student on team #217, Team Macomb Royal Fusion, from Florida Institute of Technology and Ford Motor Company.

Posted on 7/16/2000 5:17 PM MST

I am conducting survey on the modeling programs the teams of FIRST used to construct their robots. Be specific. For example, my team-217, used Solid Works to create a 3D model of our robot and then transfered the parts into AutoCAD to send to our manufactoring team.

Thanks,

Andrew Keisic

Team 69 used Mechanical Desktop to model the drive train, and Unigraphics to draw out most of the rest of the machine. Hope this helps!

Lora

UG, AutoCAD and possibly SolidEdge

I use Unigraphics... our students use AutoCAD, mostly for the animation.

We are possibly going to move toward SolidEdge. SolidEdge is a UG-owned software package that is great for designing machines and assemblies. I have a contact at UG-SolidEdge who wants more FIRST teams to use 'Edge (of course he does!). He was saying something like 20 seats for $1,000. Sweet deal, if I do say so.

I'll post his name once I get back to my work computer.

246 also used solid works for designing the robot and more specifically, it's individual components..

for animation, we used AutoCAD and 3-D Studio to draw and animate..
