Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
I'd really like to thank teams 1230 and 2170, our (1071) alliance partners in the finals. It was my first year on the drive team, and they really made it a weekend to remember. They were gracious and professional, enthusiastic and a lot of fun. They were an amazing group of guys to compete with, and I'd like to thank them all for that, from me and the rest of my team.
Congrats to the winning alliance, you guys were unstoppable. It was a real thrill going against you! Good luck to all the teams continuing on, and we hope to see as many of you as possible in Atlanta! --Iona |

It surprised me too. We talked as a team about catching another partners hurdle (which we never realy had a chance to try in competition) and we talked about teams hurding balls to us, but an direct hand off was definately cool. I never asked the drivers if they planed that of came up with it on the fly. Its funny, a few years back (04 i think) the last year we had to hang from the bar. We had a Picture Perfect moment hanging from the bar going against RAGE that match... we both hung with a big ball stuck in the middle. Seems like our robots like each other no matter which alliance were on!!! |

Re: 2008 Connecticut Regional
I also want to thank 1071 and 2170 for joining us in the #8 alliance. We had a great time working with all of you, and we put up quite a fight!
Team Lionics was excited to be in the quarterfinals, but the icing on the cake was that last match because it allowed us to actually see the robot make it all the way around in hybrid for the first time on a full FRC field. If I remember right, our alliance had 32 points at the end of hybrid! (This lead was quickly eliminated by the remarkable offensive power of our opponents, but it's something we can be really proud of!) It was also an honor competing against the #1 alliance - 1124, 175, and 716. you not only dominated the elimination matches, but amazed us all with how MANY people you had there supporting your teams! I think all three of you wrapped around the entire arena when accepting your regional champion medals. Congratulations on your three great robots, but more importantly, congratulations on the extent to which you have spread FIRST within your community. Good luck in Atlanta! |

Anyway, I have to say congratulations to your alliance. Like I said to someone else, you were a great group of teams and you worked really well together- you had our supporters scared after QF 1-1 because the scores were so close! I was the drive team coach, and I definitely noticed that hybrid mode. I was a little jealous that ours wasn't working right. I know the feeling of it finally working, though. We had a beautiful hybrid going at our practice facility, but it was a little off at the regional. There was this one match, though, where we knocked off one alliance trackball (second was a near miss), and crossed 5 lines, for a total of 28 points on our robot alone. It wasn't as great as practice, but way better than the times we went backwards around the field. And the funny thing about our supporters is, I was even shocked to see so many people come watch us- I guess all of our work on spreading the word is paying off. There were middle school kids (and younger) who wanted to join the team in the future, school administrators, teachers with their families, kids from our school, parents, siblings, sponsors, families, friends... Looking at us now, you would never have known that in 2003, we began as a team of 12, and even in 2006, we were only 24. (-: |

Your hybrid was fantastic, we were all really impressed. It's not easy to get a fully functional hybrid, but you guys really did an amazing jobs. Thanks again. |
