Re: Rookie Scout

Hey, it Adam from 386. As you saw, we use a PHP input form to submit data from six computers watching the matches to a central server. I then access the data and make a list of information about how our opponents (and alliance partners) play the game and what they do at all times during the match. What I would recommend for you would be to create an excel spreadsheet that you can use to enter the data off of your paper sheets (that is what we have done for years).

Re: Rookie Scout

at UCF we used 1511's scouting program which is an previous post and it worked out great,

at Palmetto I was sitting at home watching the webcast and calling people on the phone

if you are not bringing a lot of man power the best suggestion I have is when the alliance divisions come out look at some of the people you might not know and try to find info about their robot ahead of time or look at some matches that may have been archived

don't bother on people you know for example if you are on the same division as 1114 you can tell by their 3 regional wins that they are good and can hurdle around 5 or 6 per match

some sites you can look at are

http://www.soap.circuitrunners.com/2008/movies/
and also http://www.thebluealliance.net/

remember that teams change things from competition to competition some may improve their hybrid mode or a new way of taking down the balls

I can tell you first hand that 386 was not as efficient at UCF taking down the balls and it worked out for them because they went from net being picked at UCF to not only in a picking position before you guys picked them but winning a regional so look out for those kinds of things

PM me if you have any more questions

Sebas

Re: Rookie Scout

Hey,
it's my rookie season also!
Our team established a quite advanced system this year. We are using paper scouting sheets and give the data into excel spreadsheets. Sheets are something like Offensive vs. Defensive Score; Lap vs. Hurdle Point...the fact that we had data to all the teams helped since the second round picks get quite hard at the end if your data does not reach far enough.
Our scouts are following the matches as a group but each of the six gets one team assigned. They sit together to be able to talk together. This helped us very much. In Tacoma, at the Microsoft Seattle Regional, we were able to pick and it turned out that our system was very reliable. We marched through the finals without losing any matches!

Another important thing is: Scout yourself! It helps to find the right alliance partner and to improve your game!

If you want to have a look at our scouting system it's right here:
Scouting Plan

In case your resources (persons) are limited. You might also want to consider to ask other teams to help you or even team parents! Both are possibilities that our team will consider in more depth!

If you have any questions, just ask...

Best wishes

Chris
