Championship

Does anybody know or have a suggestion if the FIRST Finale is something teams should stay for?
Thanks

Re: Championship

That would be the team social you are talking about. And if it is your first time going to the championship it is deffinately worth it.

Re: Championship

It's definitely worth staying for it. It's incredibly fun- there's great food, music, games, etc. Even last year when it was indoors we had a blast. It's a good time for your team to decompress and enjoy themselves after several days of hard work.

Re: Championship

It is definitely a great thing to go to, assuming your team doesnt spend forever packing and miss half of it (= (like us last year...)

Re: Championship

It kind of depends on your team... our team always went and had a blast. It's a fun way to meet people from other teams and celebrate the end of the season. Some teams don't do the whole team social thing and still have a blast, but I would highly recommend going, it has a much different atmosphere from the regional team socials.

Re: Championship

this will be 1629's second trip to Atlanta and we enjoyed it so much that when our mentors suggested skipping it to get home sooner we made sure that we were staying and extra day just to be safe, it was so much fun in 06

Re: Championship

Last year I didn't stay for the whole social because it was inside and it didnt seem to fun to me. Also, I didn't feel well so that didnt help. When it is outisde it is the best part of the Championship. There are games, friends, free food, and some of the coolest people around near you. What more could you want? I once again would highly suggest going to the Social. I will be there this year so if you see me I will hang out.(I am going by force )

Re: Championship

They usually have a hypnotist, several bands (though last year I missed Dean Simmons and the Kamen Brothers since the closing ceremony took too long :-/), tons of carnival games and attractions and at the end there are fireworks. It's usually a good time for all the students on the teams to relax and have fun after the competition.

And yes, there is free food, though it's nothing to rave over. No matter what tine you arrive, the food is always already cold. Atlanta is known as the only place on Earth where burning Sterno is an endothermic reaction...

Re: Championship

Yeah, and unfortunately a lot of teams fail to exhibit GP by taking drinks by the bagful as opposed to taking a drink for themselves. I am usually relegated to drinking diet-something or acid-ade by the time I get there.

The entertainment is usually really cool. Last year they had an excellent percussion demonstration using power tools and a lot of sparks.

Re: Championship

Honestly dont take this the wrong way people, I find that the team social is fun, however pretty expensive for what you get.

It is fun to play around with a lot of other teams and meet people, and eat free food, but it is up to your team as an indiviudal team to decide if its worth the cost.
