Team Overdrive 74 - FTC 2007/2008:

Winners of Ohio FTC Championship and Inspire Award (First Place Alliance Captain)

Winners of Diamond State FTC Competition and Inspire Award (First Place Alliance)

Winners of New Jersey FTC Competition and Think Award (First Place Alliance Captain)
Team overdrive 74 is the Chief Delphi 1998 + 2 chairmans(equivalent of inspire award) of FTC.

I personally think FIRST favours team overdrive, hence naming this year's game after them

Re: FTC World Championships

I'm expecting there will be 4 fields this year. 2 fields per division. Last year with one division we had 2 fields so 2 divisions = 4 fields?

Re: FTC World Championships

We will be running two divisions - Edison and Franklin - each with two fields, for a total of four fields. While one field in each division is being played on the other is being reset and the teams queued up. Thereby lessening "downtime" in between matches, so we can get more matches in!

Will the list of teams for each field be announced before the Championships, or at the Championships?

Re: FTC World Championships

I'm expecting 8 matches. It sounds like there are the same number of teams and twice the fields. So that should mean double the matches, last year 4 this year 8?

Are you sureit's going to be the same number of teams because of the lottery to pick the events that get the picks to go in all. I am thinking less teams more matches like 10-11 could that be true?

Re: FTC World Championships

I'm personally predicting 6 matches per team, although 8 sounds reasonable as well. Here's why:

Despite having more fields, I "think" FIRST only has a certain number of crystals. That will be the choke point for match efficiency. You can have as many fields as you want, but if there are only 8 crystals per field; the time it takes for crystals to exchange hands between teams will be greater.

Oh and also, I'm predicting 50 teams per division. Sounds reasonable enough?

What I want to know is, will there be division awards as well as awards for the entirity of the FTC competition. Specifically, would division winners and finalists leave with a trophy?

Re: FTC World Championships

The crystal problem shouldn't be that big of a deal. There have been I believe 16 crystals at each regional. That's enough to run two fields at the same time so it should be fine. Also they will need extremely good crystal management. Maybe tie the crystals to control stations. Easier to track problems if they arise too. I'm thinking this is the best practice. Also it will make sure teams don't accidentally walk off with the crystals.

I think they said something about awards spanning both divisions.

While I have no acutal knowledge of FIRST's crystal situation, I know that the frequency range that the radios work on has 30 frequencies that are allocated to RC cars ranging from 61 to 90. It would be possible for the Vex robots to use any of these frequencies, making it certainly possible to run two, or even four fields simultaneously.

Re: FTC World Championships

I believe VEX uses the odd numbered frequencies. VEX sells the following crystals in kits A and B 65, 69, 81, 85, 63, 67, 83, 87. There is also 61 in the starter kits. I know they have more frequencies in the competition set because they have always been able to give crystals to the teams on the field and those on deck.
