Re: Archi-medes!
if you put it like that, then you have one team which won't hurdle. And they have to understand that...it's understandable that if you have three hurdlers and all three hurdle at once...then communication is going to be AMAZING between them..and that's one thing that FIRST hasn't grasped..that although teams strategize and stuff..but the driversof different robots don't communicate that well during the matches...i guess you can't blame FIRST for that...
But i see what you're trying to say...It'll be interesting to see how the alliances end up..i dun see there being 24 effective hurdlers in each division. Each division has like 10-12 and the really stacked ones like Galileo have like 14...3 hurlders to an alliance just isn't feasible. Oh yeah..and where do we get the archimedes bannas????? |

Back to alliances, I think that 71, 1024, and like 2377 would be awesome in repping Archie on Einstein as well as 1124, 1024, and 816. 816 is actually fast as hell when they have a good field w/o too much traffic + they hurdle. edit: realized that 365 won't be around for a second draft pick. Replace 365 with like 2377. I remember they were a 121 look-alike. Last edited by Akash Rastogi : 11-04-2008 at 23:53. |

Re: Archi-medes!
Since a lot of you are talking team selection and strategy, who has a good autonomous/hybrid mode?
check out our youtube of our autonomous ball popper. we have several youtubes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oeOjMVcF_sI Our bot knocks out a ball and crosses 2 lines in hybrid mode. What other bots in our division have good hybrid strategy? Do we have any bots that catapult/shoot/sling the balls as a projectile? How many are "rabbits"? How many are ball handlers with a claw or grabber? Looking forward to cheering with yall. |

Re: Archi-medes!
Do you have to be in front of the ball to knock it down? Or is it driven by the robocoach? But that is a very effective way to knock it down. Also, do you put that up or is it always up? So if you are in front of an opposite ball are you going to knock it down?

Re: Archi-medes!
It works best if the ball is either straight ahead, or 1 slot over. It is hard to get it from the opposite side starting position.
The ball popper works during hybrid or regular mode, the kids move it up and down with pneumatics. The ball grabber can either hurdle or stuff. This video is airing on Sunday--it is about our 24 rookies, mentoring them, and our 1st regional in OKC. If you watch--you can see our robot in action with the ball popper. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIGU3...Robotics08.htm We had a great time in Kansas City also--we picked 1806 & 1802 (we were 8th alliance captain) and we had a great time playing with them. 1806 has a great bot--they came to OKC and won there too! our team is staying at the Residence Inn (they have an awesome full, hot breakfast every morning) the kids picked the Residence over the Omni---thank goodness. I feel sorry for all the teams that had to be moved out of the Omni. |

Re: Archi-medes!
The team on Einstein will be a combination of two out of this group 27 ,71 ,987 ,1024 ,1124 depending on where they fall in the rankings. and who has first pick. There also going to have a good third partner that can hurdle like 85,93,177,365,525,1504,1902, or play great defense like team 66.201,or 2604.

Re: Archi-medes!
WOW...amazing updates
1. Moe, amazing robot, i love how smooth the whole process is. Absolutely amazing. 2. 476, once again, amazing ball knocker offer, do you guys even have like acurracy or timing issue with that??? Like if you don't set it off at the right time, it misses. 3. 1124, simply amazing, both in hybrid and operator control. It'll be fun to play with/against your team. As for us, 1261, we have no videos, Tanner be too lazy, but feel free to check out our gallery at www.prhsrobotics.com . |

Re: Archi-medes!
We have found what you look for in the third round out partner in a
alliance is someone who doesn't run up any penalties on a regular basis and is willing to work with the alliance and do what is needed. Sounds simple but ask anyone who has Scouted and sometimes you don't find those qualities in teams. I agree you need to have 3 hurdlers to do the job in Nationals. All the machines should be able to switch duties at a moments notice. If you don't have the ball run laps or clear a path for your team or knockdown. |

Re: Archi-medes!
I agree. Nationals is a whole new animal and will be a lot different than the regionals we're used to seeing. The strongest alliance will be the one with 3 hurdlers. And i think there are going to be plenty of hurdlers in each division. And like what was said before, the third partner should be able to handle any situation possible to benefit the alliance.
We were actually the first pick by the #3 alliance at VCU and got to the semi's. We lost to team 1086 Blue Cheese (currently in Newton), a fast and efficient launcher. We have a whole bunch of youtube videos, just search for Team 401 on the site. Here is a link of us at VCU. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2-f64VIz9A |

Re: Archi-medes!
Haha, good to see people finally agreeing with me about the 3 hurdlers. As for teams that scout well and see what teams got penalties frequently, I actually found it was a lot of rookies. Not generalizing too much, but its true although some rookies were pro's at driving and some veteran teams...well, let's just say they didn't have the best of luck. And yea, we take penalties and how well other teams work with us into account during alliance selection.
Also, just some constructive crit: I think that 1124's driver's need some more practice in terms of being faster with those hurdles and driving around a lot quicker. The hurdling itself is fast; however, in the matches I watched, they seemed to be taking it easy while driving and I think that'll make a huge difference on their performance when (not if) they get on Einstein.
