Presentation: My Passion

One of my classes required all of the students to do a 20 minute presentation on something that they are passionate about. Like many others on this forum, I turn every opportunity I get to stand on my soapbox for FIRST.

I mainly used the FIRST Overview powerpoint found on www.usfirst.org. I Added some of my own slides, my teams pictures, some video from competitions, and my own personal flare. I had a student in the class record the presentation so I can share it with the community in case others come across a speech class or something of the sort and need guidance on how to do a presentation like this. I used as much humor as possible to keep the audience entertained and listening.

I took out the quotes from the original powerpoint from The World is Flat and added others from the book that I thought fit better. Most of this presentation can easily be replicated just by searching for pictures and video from the internet, some can not. If you would like help duplicating any of my slides, I will gladly lend assistance if enough time is given in advance.

Enjoy.

Nice job, you should take that enthusiasm to college and continue to work with FIRST. By the way, what kind of feedback from your teacher did you get (Comments and Grade)?

Re: Presentation: My Passion

Very Very Nice presentation. . . I hate having a time limit on a presentation AndyB and I are in the same speech class and we each did an informative speech about FIRST Robotics. He took the section about the build season and I talked about the competition (regionals and championship). We were allowed 3-5 minutes and I think we each talked about 6 minutes.

Hard not to go over when you are talking about FIRST Robotics. Even writing a report about FIRST Robotics

Re: Presentation: My Passion

Barry, wonderful presentation. I have to say this is one of the better, if not the best I've gotten to see.

Gamer930 hits a nice point there,

When giving a speech about robotics, I find myself cursing short time limits rather than embracing them. I can tell that if you had the oppurtunity, you could have talked till Tuesday .

Great job Barry and I hope to catch up with you and say hi in Atlanta.

Re: Presentation: My Passion

Thanks to everyone thus far for the kind words, I am very impressed there are students taking the time to watch a 20 minute presentation on a subject with which they are already familiar. I wasn't sure if this thread would get a single reply.

I am finishing my junior year of college, this is a 1 hour credit class that teaches students how to become more well rounded. It is a pass/fail class that I am simply taking for my own benefit and there are no grades. Thus far I have heard that everyone has enjoyed the presentation, even those not interested in science nor technology. After watching my own presentation, I am confident it can be improved with more practice.

Let me know if you need help replicating any of my slides or anything else from my presentation, that is why I put it up for all to enjoy. This presentation is inspired from many sources especially Dean Kamen speeches, the book The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman, NEMO meetings, and many posts I have read on this forum. If you can't say something better than someone else did, then why say it any differently?
