Oops! Let me try entering that OCCRA link again (It should be printed in blue down below).
: 15 of the 22 participating high schools who competed saw improved robots and more exciting matches Saturday in the second regional OCCRA tournament held at Brandon HS. Team #33 Avondale won and set a new scoring record, breaking the old mark set by Team #1 OTCNE last week at Rochester. Team #201 Rochester was 2nd again, while Team #91 Lake Orion took 3rd and captured the 'Best Play of the Day' award for their exciting 'hands-on' style of play (inside joke). Team #47 Pontiac Central finished strong in their first OCCRA regional and won the 'Creative Engineering' award. Team #245 Rochester Adams won the 'Spirit of the Competition' award and Brandon's machine was awarded the 'Beautiful Bot' trophy. Rookie Team Holly received a special Judge's Award for their remarkable perseverence in the face of adversity.
: OCCRA is the newest Fall sport in Oakland county. We have one more regional tournament at Pontiac Northern (you all know Team #65, the Huskies, right?) on Friday Novenber 3rd, then the Championships at Avondale (home of Team #33) on November 11th. We invite all FIRST teams that can make the trip to come check out this new high school 'academic' sport. All of these machines are 100% student built: adults serve only in an advisory role. Since almost half of the schools are not currently FIRST Teams, we hope that many will be able to partner up with a corporate sponsor and join us for the 'Big Event' in January. The link below will take you to the League's website if you want to know more.
