Railing height
Posted by Frank Toussaint.   [PICTURE: SAME | NEW | HELP]
Engineer on team #111, Wildstang, from Wheeling and Rolling Meadows and Motorola . Posted on 10/31/2000 5:33 PM MST The drawing at http://www.chiefdelphi.com/cgi/pictu...ast_displayed= clearly shows the height of the railing to be six inches above the carpet as measured at the top of the pipe. When I try to build as shown in photo http://www.chiefdelphi.com/cgi/pictu...ast_displayed= the railing turns out to be seven inches high. What kind of fool am I? |

There is a slight difference in the drawing and the height due to the fittings. What is important are several facts: 1. The railing is intended to contain the balls, save chasing them. 2. The robots are not to interact with the railing except by accident. This means that they cannot use them for leverage, grabbing on to, or to position themselves for advantage. When I measured the actual railing it varies from 6.5 inches to 7.0 inches. This is due to the warping of the 2X6 and the fittings as they vary in debth. I do not think that the variance will cause any advantage or disadvantage to any team. Remember Key Klamp fittings are just castings not precision couplings. |
