Okay all you CDI invitees,
Time to do a sense check on completeness and validate those that have been monitoring this cdi message board. With just over 2 weeks to go, we're curious about your progress. Therefore, I'm asking for one designate from each team to respond to the following: On a scale of 1 to 9, (1 being haven't even started, to 9 we are driving and practicing now).
Where are you in the process?

I would say about a 3 or 4 for team 66...the final bits of work are being done on the drive train, and designs are being finalized for the ball handling mechanism...we should have something to at least practice driving with by early next week at the very latest...ball handling practice still to come...

Team 153 (Smokey and the Bandits) is a 5. All of our students got to control the chassis/drive system last night. Today we're 'optimizing' the speed-power balance.

The ball handling system is a little behind. We had to go through many design iterations to get a simple, workable design. Now we're working on a prototype.

With our team spread out from IN to MA, getting an honest tab on where we stand is a bit tricky.... Having done these before, and knowing that you really don't know that you are in fact 'done' till you are competing in your first round, we will take a 5.

Some details. We have a design of the base and arm. We have a working prototype of a base that can scoot around. We have the actual base under construction in Kokomo with a report that it will be operational this weekend. We have an arm / ball pick up device that is built and is in Boston getting modified to actually hold a ball, and be mounted on the base. Some 'details' that remain are the component integration (scheduled to being on 11/10) and the inevitable revisions needed to make it work. It is, by design, a simple device, so the integration should not be very impossible (only mildly impossible).

If anyone is interested, the work is being 'coordinated' through our web site ( www.CGAteamUSA.org ) under the following links:

Design Gallery: Chief Delphi Invitational

Team number 71 has boilerplate number 1 running and using it for driving practice. We hope to get first chassis with attachments on the field this weekend. Overall I would say we are a 6. BTW the CDI crossed me up by going earlier this year. I am leaving the country for a vacation next week and won't be back until the eve of the competition. Our group will handle it, but it will be agony for me.

We are moving around on the floor and most of the components of our robot are made. All we need to do is put it all together and to work out the bugs. I would give ourselves a 4 because I still thinks there is a lot of work to do.

Team 109 will have to take a 3-4 so far. Drivetrain is simple and functional. Drawing a little too much current, but adding the car battery has helped

I just want to say that this kit is awesome. I think our team will be using the couplers and trantorques for the FIRST competition this year based on our experiences with CDI.
