Vince;

Hit the news stand and buy a copy of 'Nuts and Volts'.

Go through the ads and find youself a nice sealed lead acid battery (kinda like what we've used in recent years for the robot...) and charger, and you've got yourself a portable power supply.

On the surplus market, these batteries are pretty cheap, and are available in many different sizes (if you find the 17amp-hr too large for your application).

Better than the Ni-Cd's we used to use, as they will take a great deal more abuse.
