Lesson Learned
Posted by Andy Baker.
Engineer on team #45, TechnoKats, from Kokomo High School and Delphi Automotive Systems. Posted on 12/1/2000 11:57 AM MST In Reply to: Public Apology ---- Please Read! posted by David Kelly on 11/29/2000 3:28 PM MST: David, Lessons are tough to learn. I'm impressed that you owned up to this mistake and posted a thoughtful apology. Keep on posting... just remember that we're all in this together. We can be competitors while still all being friendly. For the rest of us... there are two things to learn here: First of all, do not take David's advice lightly. He said: 'Learn from my mistake. Think before you speak.' This is soooo true. I made a similar mistake over email a few years ago and lost some friends because of it. Always remember that emails (and group posts) can be forwarded, printed, copied and saved. So, you better have all of your facts straight and 'taking back' what you sent or posted is impossible... it lives forever. Secondly, having resposibility for your actions is very important these days. David took resposibility for his action by posting his aplology. When a person makes a mistake, they should own up to their actions and not blame others. In most cases, how a person REACTS after making a mistake can do more harm or good than making the mistake to begin with. (geez... I hope this doesn't sound like I'm lecturing here... oh, well... I'm getting old) Andy B. |
