Re: Great Plays of 2008

How about the match when 39 hurdled a deflated ball a couple times?

Thunderchickens last-second placing and Robowranglers last-second placing block both come to mind.

And while it wasn't technically "a play", how about the RUSH pit crew changing an entire transmission during a 6 minute time out, and still getting their machine back on the field during the eliminations in Detroit.

Team 537 during their first quarterfinal match in Wisconsin against the number 1 seed. They were trying to knock a trackball off the overpass and when they turned to drop their arm down they blocked team 1730's hurdle then as they were bringing their arm down 1 second later they blocked winovations hurdle. I was in que for the next match, it was amazing to see. The whole stadium was like ROOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRR!!!!! 537 still ended up losing but it was still just somthing amazing to see

That's the first amazing play that popped into my head. I think it was team 1425 trying a desperate last second placement (one of the last qualifications on Saturday). The ball came up short, bounced, and hit the blue ball on the way up, knocking it waaay off!

My other favorite play was also from Las Vegas; the awesome 4 hurdles of a flat trackball by team 39!

Watch the last 4 seconds of match 82 in the Archimedes Division. http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv...hp?eventid=185
1504 from 7 feet away raise the ball over the overpass, drive forward and knock the blue ball over the overpass and place the red on the overpass when the buzzers sounds. It was crazy 24 point swing in just one second.

http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv...p?matchid=5334

we cap the ball on our overpass and before it even settles in 103 knocks it off and it hits us on its way down so we don't even get points for the hurdle.

http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv...p?matchid=9794

at the buzzer they let go of the ball and win the match by 2 points because of the herd.

I was standing right behind Raul waiting in que, he turned around smiled, and said "They deserve that one".
Ironically, we actually did this too at FLR. When it happened, everyone went nuts! Here's the link (match #48)

Also, I thought when 1114 grabbed the ball out of 330's lower gripper during Galileo eliminations was a pretty cool play, as was there attempt to catch a teammate's hurdled ball.

Re: Great Plays of 2008

My single favorite play of the year was when 217 actually took the trackball from our possession and hurdled it at Great Lakes. At first I was kind of freaking out that they might get tangled inside our robot but when it happened I thought it was just plain awesome to see.

Team X-Cats, 191, had a great place at the end of one of their matches. Unfortunately, the refs ruled that the robot was touching the ball when the buzzer sounded, but regardless, it was a great play!

This was not an intentional move.
Hey, we were in that match. Our alliance partner was about to mow their arm over, which would have been faster than what we did but I didn't want to break 1717's bot even though they weren't on our alliance. I ever so lovingly "convinced" our alliance partners to take some time and push on their drive train instead. Eh, we lost the match due to lost time and were no longer undefeated. To be honest I was just glad we were hurdling after the rocky season we've had. 1717 went on to be 2nd seed and made it to the Galileo finals after that.
Thank you for being sensitive of potential damage to our robot. Our fall was in absolutely no way intentional, but we do appreciate the way in which the other teams took it in stride, and continued to treat every robot and team with respect, especially in some of their most nerve-wracking moments. Thanks to your team's conscious efforts to avoid damage, or robot came up nearly intact.

What was amazing about this play was not that they placed the ball in the last seconds of the match... it was that they placed the ball several seconds after the end of the match .

Their robot had enough momentum to roll up to overpass; the roller-wheels had enough momentum to spit out the ball; after power was turned off the elevator lowered, for a flawless place!

Re: Great Plays of 2008

Well, 1114 several times I watched them catch balls out of the air (sometimes on the bounce after they'd just hurdled it), as well as once where they'd caught the ball off the 2nd overpass IN AUTONOMOUS. If they could have caught that ball reliably, they'd have been able to launch it and get it over the 1st overpass just before they get their 5th line.

Also, 188 had a similar incident to that of 191 in the elims at Waterloo, as did 2609 a match or two later. 2609 placed, backed up, the match ended, and their arm hit the ball on the way down when their robot got disabled (the ball WAS still settling)... the refs didnt take the points away (as they shouldn't have, but they initially acted like they were going to.)
