This was my first time going and it was amazing! We didn't win anything this year, but we had lots of fun! That makes everything better. And congrats on winning rookie inspiration!

You went to Nationals? We went to the Championship, where a Canadian team was part of the winning alliance.

To add, a mentor from FRC 188, Mark Breadner, was awarded the 2008 WFA.
It was a great Championship for our Canadian friends.

Congratulations to your team, Spiders, as well. The distance of travel back and forth is a real eye-opener for sure. It can be very unexpected and surprising. Also, the size of the Dome and the spread of the fields. The first time I saw it, I think I forgot to breathe for a minute or two. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the Championship just as you did this year.

Psst, many of our students, mentors, and parents on our team still call the Championship, Nationals. We still know what they are talking about. I like that some folks are calling it, Worlds. That's kind of cool.

Wow - way to rip someone on their choice of wording when they're clearly trying to say what a great time they had. At some point, you need to learn to let it go.

(If Dean still says 'Nationals', how can you ridicule a rookie team for it? Come on.)

Hey man... getting a rookie award at the big event is a really big deal. You should be proud of what you've done - there's only one chance to be a rookie and you've got a nice trophy to show for your hard work.

Congratulations - and we hope to see you back next year, too.

Congratulations to you, Full Throttle, Team 2599!

If any of you need a spirit-lifter you should go to 2599's website and read their story "We're Going to Atlanta!" This had to be one of, if not the most, inspirational story I heard all year about the impact of FIRST!

To make it easy - here is the link! http://fullthrottle.superhappyfuntown.com/about.html

And with "Spiders" I also say congratulations to all of the teams that went to Championships - Veteran and Rookie Teams alike! It was my first year to go to Atlanta and it was definitely overwhelming!

Re: Nationals are crazy

We mean no harm - some of us are wordsmiths - and the term "Nationals" is a really out-of-date word... see http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=56706 for a huge thread on this.
With more and more international teams playing in the three events held concurrently, I think it's only appropriate to correct someone when they use the old word.

But that's off-topic. Glad you had a good time. I clocked over 36 miles on the pedometer - I don't think people realize how large and spaced apart everything is until they go there. It's unfortunate that there is so much going on at the same time that you can't possibly experience everything.

Canada isn't a nation? <raised eyebrow> < right back at you>

I think "the Nationals" sounds okay because all the Nations join to play. And this is from someone who started FRC after it was called "the Championship". Just wait until they move it (whatever it may be called) to another city -- you'll still have people saying "Atlanta".

Congrats on the win man. I am glad you enjoyed Atlanta. I went there my first year and was amazed. The people are great, and the atmosphere is even greater! You also get to learn from some of the greatest engineers and teachers just by talking to them!

If people actually were actually trying to help they would post about their opinions about the thread first and then they would in a PS or side note say whatever. Honestly, people are taking this way out of proportion. I honestly believe that Brandon should create a forums for the following: GP, YOU MISSPELLED FIRST! OMG! (with sub forums - You forgot the "." in FIRST, You forgot the "italics" in FIRST, etc.), +1 for using the wrong term, etc.

Many people take FIRST and some small mistakes way too seriously. I agree that people should properly use terms, but before I pass judgment I look at who is speaking. If it is Dave saying Nationals on the forums its one thing, but when a rookie who has been taught by example (from Dean and others) makes a mistake, how can you continue to post this type of nonsense!?!

Note: I just call it Atlanta, ATL, or some other derivative just because people chastised me on these forums when I first joined.

Pavan

You can call them the Nationals all you want. But for me, they will always be the "Senators"

-dave

oh, wait, that probably isn't what you were talking about. Never mind.

Hey, no offense was meant by my post. I did put a smiley in ...

Anyway, working in FLL where there were over 20 countries represented and a team from Singapore won the Champion award, I just wanted to remind people that the event is far more than a national tournament now.

Our team president rips on both us and Dean whenever we use "Nationals" instead of "Championship Event". i guess its how much you desire to stick with the set standard.

Congrats #2599, its good to know that we have a rookie who 'gets it'. Nice site, by the way... it trumps ours in my opinion.
