Walpole Robotics in the Movies!

Announcing

Nuts and Bots
The True-Life Chronicles of the WHS RoboRebels

World Premier at the
Walpole High School Film Festival

This Sunday, May 4th, at Walpole (Mass.) High School
Red Carpet Show Thursday, May 8th

Information at whsfilmfestival.com

The Walpole High School Film Festival was created in 2002 to give students the opportunity to write, direct, and produce completely original independent films. Each year the crews get better and better as support for their work grows in and out of school. This year there are over a dozen films to be presented, including Nuts and Bots.

Rob McCarty and Kat Cullen have been following the Walpole RoboRebels since last September filming us, learning and living the robotic culture. Now the world gets to see how robots really get made, at least Walpole robots. While all the crews finished the filming process by March and began the long editing process, Rob and Kat were still filming as we traveled to BAE/Manchester and Boston to compete. Unfortunately for them (but good for us!), we were in the finals in Boston and they had to yet again re-edit the film to keep it under the 30 minute limit.

I've heard the film is excellent and has a good chance of being award-winning. We're having the film redone later for promotional purposes to give to potential sponsors. Which just goes to show, you can use just about anything at school for robotics!

Here's the crew's blog:

Here's the Trailer (at the bottom of the page):

(Eventually they will have it on YouTube)

Okay, I'm bragging, but most of the people in the trailer are my programming crew, but not necessarily programming at the time. Also, there seems to be a lot of movies this year that star our robotics students. (See? Robotics goes everywhere!) Our own Mr Scott has had a winning performance in 2006 in the multi-award winning movie I, Scottbot. Finally, Rob won last year with Best Short Film.

Here's our website: walpolerobotics.org, just awarded a Website Excellence Award!

Regrettably Roger has forgotten to mention that our movie will be shown at the 1:00 pm show at the High School. The tickets are going on sale from 12-1 for $, you'll get to see few more movies than ours, and you'll be supporting one of the only public school student run film festivals. Also, the youtube trailer has been up for quite some time...

Re: Walpole Robotics in the Movies!

I saw the movie yesterday and it was good. Not as much on the build period but lots more of BAE/Manchester with plenty of interviews of other teams. Maybe B_Dubbs will supply a list of teams shown.
