Compass tilt error

Hey all.

We are doing a competition which involves GPS navigation, and would like to integrate a compass into our system.

Are there any digital compasses that are not affected by tilt?

We purchased the Devantech CMPS03 compass, but it is affected by tilt. Sometimes our robot will be on a slope, and it still must have consistent readings from a compass.

Re: Compass tilt error

AFAIK, all compasses are affected by tilt.

You could put the compass on a tilting platform. As long as the CG is (well) below the pivot point, your compass will always be level with the ground.

Re: Compass tilt error

You should set your compass into a 2 axis gimbal like this.

They are fairly easy to create as long as you keep your CG below the 1st axis pivot point and centered on the 2nd axis.
