Unhappy Dean's collection of cars

Rumor has it from a friend who works at Deka that Dean might have sold his Hummer to make room for the Tesla Dean supposedly has purchased. If this is true, it kinda stinks. I have always kinda associated dean with his H1. His truck is pretty well known in Manchester. U don't see too many around, i don't see him ever selling the porsche, but I can understand with the way diesel is priced now, why Dean would want to give up the truck

Re: Dean's collection of cars

I'd much rather have a Tesla Roadster than a Hummer, but that's just me.

Who wants to start guessing how long it will be before Dean crams one of his Sterling engines in the minuscule trunk space in that car? Or up the ante with a three-speed transmission? Or installs his man cannon in the passenger seat?

Me too. The Tesla Roadster beats a Hummer on my personal coolness scale, no contest at all.

As for Dean's personal transportation choices: I was more partial to the truck he drove before getting that Hummer -- was it Blazer? Something old-school and well worn, anyway.

On the subject of Sterling mules, maybe Dean will retrofit the Hummer with one of his power plants?

Re: Dean's collection of cars

Oooh.. I'm liking that "Less than 2 cents a mile" quote on the Tesla website, seeing as I'm currently paying 17 cents a mile with my 4 cylinder car this week.

When you drive 20,000 miles a year it tends to add up.

I agree with all of u guys regarding gas prices. I just feel, Dean should be allowed to drive whatever he wants. Money isn't a problem for everyone, and i don't think he minds paying for diesel Maybe he sold the truck, maybe he didn't, but i don't think it would be that weird to have a tesla and a hummer in the same garage. if i could afford it, i would buy the same high end cars, but unfortunately, that just ain't the case

While it is definitely nice to be able to buy whatever you want, one may also consider some other factors such as ecological footprint. A Hummer H1 essentially serves the same function as a Prius (or Tesla Roadster for that matter), but uses A LOT more gas and creates more pollution. And as you know, oil isn't really bursting out of the ground these days...

I've been to Manchester (and, specifically, Westwind) in January, and that hill going up was interesting enough in a school bus. If there were particularly lousy weather (it's New Hampshire--live, freeze, or die), I think I'd take a Hummer over a Prius. Granted, there probably cars that might meet Dean's precise driving needs
without swilling gasoline as much as an H1 does, but I know I wouldn't mind having a bit of a safety margin if I drove frequently in lousy conditions. (And besides, there's always the other car--a Porsche, if I recall--for when you don't need to ford thirty inches of water.)

(Full disclosure: I work for a GM dealership, though we don't sell Hummers. I did drive a Prius last week in connection to work, though, and that is a fine car--just don't ask me to climb a mountain in it.)

Coming from a snowy climate, a Hummer is probably one of the worst things for snow. Four wheel drive does not mean four wheel stop; and as such, the thousands of extra pounds in a Hummer over other 4WD cars adds considerable momentum which can only complicate trying to change direction/stop in the snow or ice.

I'd much rather have a trusty 4x4 pickup truck than a Hummer in snow, ice, or going off-road. Not only is it lighter and gets better mileage, but it's actually a useful vehicle. (Now if we're talking ex-military Humvees as opposed to Hummers, that's another story. Those things are beasts.)

Yeah, I think people forget that Hummers are the commercial vehicles and not the real deal. Sure they have off-road capabilities....but most other SUV's and pickups are considerably better 4x4's.

Plus they are really ugly...

I've never liked, nor wanted a Hummer, military edition or otherwise.
I don't see now, & never saw what the big fascination was with them to tell you the truth.
They were built to get a job done in a military application, just like the Jeep (which btw I have also never liked the design of) & to fake that into a car for the general public, was a big joke IMHO.

Also, while on this subject, GM has almost decided to discontinue the Hummer line as annou8nced in news reports form the AP in recent weeks as well as some of it's other truck divisions, and while that will mean a lot of lost jobs (& potential loss of sponsorships of teams from areas like Oshawa, Canada which is on the chopping block just to name one GM facility on the list of about 5-6 if I recall correctly) I certainly applaud GM's decision to cut the SUV type vehicle from it's lineup, & I definitely won't shed a tear when the Hummer is obsolete.

He drives a Humvee, not an H1. It's pretty awesome, and you're right, Art, it's a BEAST.

The reason it's not around as much, is most likely the obvious: gas prices. If he doesn't have to transport big things, or lots of people, and the weather's just fine, why bother with the big car?

As far as I know, he didn't sell it. I doubt he would sell that thing, it's vital in the winter up there. Plus, if he can afford both, why sell the Humvee? Expensive gas or not, it's still an awesome car, and comes in handy on that hill.

Big Things? Yes.

Lots of people? Not so much. If I remember correctly, it held 4 people, THEN me, and Dean's Segway in the back, joyfully rolling around. I wouldn't really call that a lot.

Re: Dean's collection of cars

I'm beginning to think Dean gave up the truck. I don't think he sold it, but maybe donated it to someone or for something. Not really sure. It's been like 7 or 8 months since I saw it in Manchester. For some reason, when I would see his H1, I would always think of Schwarzenegger. I know it sounds weird, but his truck was in such pristine condition every time I saw it on the way home from school and work. In my eyes, he is a celebrity, and his resume is certainly a lot more impressive to me than that of someone like Paris Hilton, or whoever, LOL.
