Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

None of our past robots are in working condition. We often strip them for the axles and sprockets.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

Wow, you guys, thanks for all of your answers! I'm new to CD, and I am amazed at how fast people reply. Of course, there's over a million members. Of course, being new, I did a total noobish thing and didn't search. Only until after I posted, I noticed that there were about 5 other threads about this same thing. And, I stupidly didn't read the things in the "read these first" sticky before I made this thread.

But, oh well; there thankfully isn't too much damage done. We were all noobs once.

It seems that most people use the old parts, keep the robots for demonstration purposes, or recycle the metal parts. I like the recycling idea. We don't have a lot of space for our robot(s) at our school, so one of the reasons I made this thread was find out some reasons for getting rid of the parts. Donating, recycling, throwing away.

Any more ideas for our situation would be great, thanks so much.

That's why there are mistakes. So you can learn from them.

1676:

2005 - All parts are intact, but not on Robot; Robot is a 6 wheel Chasis now, used for proto-typing

2006 - Robot is a shell - all parts are there, minus electronics and wheels
2006b- Kitbot Chassis, with the 2006 Electronics - used for testing

2007 - Fully Operational

2008 - Fully Operational

If you absolutely have to get rid of parts, I'd suggest trying to donate them to another team instead of throwing them away. There are a ton of teams that would benefit from extra parts to play with.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

2008 100%
2007 86%
2006 90%
2005 100%
2004 32%
2003 40%
2002 70%
2001 60%
2000 65%

These are some rough percentages on the old robots and how much they are together and working order. I have been trying to bring all back to life but it has been proven difficult to get into the shop and find certain parts. all of they retain a framework of themselves and just have been dissemble to build demos and what not. 2001 bot was completely taken apart and reassembled in my room at home only to find out that the gearboxes and power supply can't support the drive system. so yeah that wasn't a great day at power up. yet my hopes are to return them all to 90 to 100 percent.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

1468 -
all robots (2k4 through 2k8) except for 2k5 are in working order, or at least could be made to work within a few hours. A few tweaks would probably be necessary with some of them.

311(disbanded in 2005)-
2k2 half disassembled in my garage.
2k3 stripped to basic chassis in my garage.
2k4 fully working . . in my garage.
I've been using 2k4 as a demo bot for new teams occasionally.

2487("old" rookie existed in 2k1 then disbanded)-
former team robot from 2k1 is still in their lab, could be made working with proper programming.

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

Our team is running out of room for robots. Someone's office is our everything room (besides acual shop) so after three robots, its about time we start doing something with our robots.... until then;

05- First robot, but I don't think we'll ever completely destroy that one. Still togeather, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't run.

06-Its gone. (I wasn't around for this 'bot) It was made out of Polycarbonite and I guess it wasn't really the best bot ever, so all we have left is our shooter.

07- Our Arm doesn't work, but we use that bot at all our demos. It looks amazing and its a great example of mecannum.

08- Fully functional since Milwaukee/CRI but our lift works (minus programming).

So of our two functional robots, we use them for driver practice and demos.

Basically the same thing that we have done.

All our older bots from 1999 to about 2003 are completely gone. We don't have the space for them and unfortunately can't save them all. We have 2 bots that are together (2008 and 2005/6?) and then the frame and assorted parts of 2 more that I know off.

179 has turned one of its old bots into a trophy case that sits near our practice field.

in the top right corner, you can still see the frame from an old bot, im not sure the year, but before my time

Re: What do you guys do with your old robots?

2006: Gone for the most part, save for the shooter.
2007: Gutted...
We removed the ramps and attached our 2006 shooter to the top of the frame. There are wheels on the frame, but no transmission, so we just push it around when we want to display it.

2008: Still intact, but we converted the flipper into a giant dustpan and the forklift into a ... bigger dustpan. It collects and throws away garbage left on the ground.

Then we realized that it doesn't work that well, so we just use it to collect Poofballs for the 06/07 bot until we come up with something more practical.

And I think we still have our old frames around somewhere...
