Go to Post It is sad when the robots do not perform as we designed them. It is sadder still, when they perform well, but they are not victorious. However, it is most saddening when they win at a competition, and competitors are unwilling to acknowledge the teamwork and good fortune of the alliance. - Bill Moore [more]

I've only seen WALL-E and Robots of those choices, but WALL-E is my new favorite movie, replacing even the childhood favorite The Great Mouse Detective.

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?

I said Wall-E, but its a close competition between most of them. Robby the Robot does hold a special place in my heart. I actually have seen the original Gort at the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. Though the one robot I love more than Wall-E is R2-D2. I have a lot of R2-D2 collectibles.

I still don't see how people love Blade Runner. I loved Do Android Dream of Electric Sheep?, but Blade Runner was just meh. I'd suggest the book to anyone.
Besides, the androids (or replicants, or whatever you want to call them) really push the boundary of "robot". In the book they weren't even remotely mechanical. I suppose robots don't have to be mechanical (merely artificial), but it's still an interesting debate whether or not those androids were robots.

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?

Although it's not primarily a robot movie, Bishop the android and the big yellow walking freight loader from Aliens (it's teleoperated from inside ) come to mind as memorable big screen robots.

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?

I loved Wall-E but it is just too soon for me to evaluate whether it is the best. Needs some staying power. I also loved the Iron Giant and almost voted for that one, but ultimately when I think about robots the movie that first comes to mind is Star Wars. The variety of creativity in droids throughout these movies is amazing and I love R2D2 and to a lesser extent C3PO. It was truly inspiring seeing the original in 1977 (although somewhat terrifying since I was pretty young). Special effects have come a long way since then.

I have to agree with Dave on these, with Forbidden Planet at the top of that list, although there was far too much empty space in the rocket.

However, I can't believe that no one mentioned the Star Wars movies. Who could not love the comic relief between C3PO and R2D2.

Re: Best Robot Movie Ever Made?

I voted for transformers. I havent seen any of those others except for I robot, and i like transformers. I do agree that star wars should be included. It has everything, little green people who talk funny, and big fuzzy things that scream instead of talking

My favorite comedy is Top Secret. It is the funniest movie ive ever seen. it has nothing to do with robots though....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92R20ImGNCU go to 2.50 for one of the funniest parts in the movie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-jqE...eature=related This is how the movie starts. Best beginning to a movie ever.
