Re: WALL•E

For those of you looking for realistic Wall-E toys, a "mere" $189 (edit - $249.99 now - ah capitalism) buys you this little guy later this year.

He's so cute, ignoring his owner's commands is almost like a "feature".

It would be great if he can compact your garbage for you into neat little cubes and then take it out to the curb for you.

Why buy, when we can build I see enough leftover parts in our shop to build the basic chassis....Now all I need are some binoculars and tank tracks!

I wonder how many times Wall-E will be featured in teasers for the upcoming season.

Re: WALL•E

Team 1675 had an opportunity to demo at a local theater on Friday night and Saturday night of opening weekend. We had the FRC robot on display only, but had a couple of smaller Vex bot, including a Wall-E lookalike, for kids to drive. We had an excellent turnout both days and had several people interested in joining local Vex leagues and wondering where they can get Vex kits for Christmas =)

I've seen Wall-E twice now and I cried both times (what can I say, I'm a sucker for robot love), but as an animator, this move is beyond amazing. I've read about how they tried to mimic old sci-fi films and certain camera techniques - they actually rewrote their animating software just for this movie to achieve the perspectives and focuses...it really is a treat. I think the thing I love most about the move, though, is how overly complex everything is (a nice commentary on the flaws of the future...and present to some degree) - pay attention to how many robots are required to activate EVE. Someone forgot about KISS in the future.

Re: WALL•E

I was laughing when EVE was being activated....I noticed that too! Although I think "technology designed by artists" has that problem more than "technology designed by engineers". In other words, it's a movie thing.

Quite possibly a 'girl' thing. The artists/animators offered many tongue-in-cheek moments such as Eve being high-maintenance.

I loved the part when Wall-E couldn't figure out which cup to put the spork in.

Re: WALL•E on 3DContentCentral - put your model there too

During the middle of build season, sometimes you need a model of a fun and happy robot, Wall-e is posted on 3dcontentcentral.com

http://www.3dcontentcentral.com/secu...d=171&id=12560

You could post your model there too - do file, save as and select part, that way only the outside faces will be selected and the file size will be under the maximum requirements.

You can also embed a 3dcontentcentral model link into your web page. Copy the link on the right hand side of the page.

Re: WALL•E

Has anyone gotten & watched the DVD version of this yet??

If so, & you are a stickler for details, & noticed a robot being "locked out" after WALL•E & EVE's space dance after they rescued the plant from the blown up pod, you'll love the animated short that comes with the DVD called BURN•E.

It's all about the robot that got locked out during that scene, & is done pretty incredibly to include various parts of the movie as they happen concurrently with BURN•E's task.

Buy the movie, & go check it out if you haven't seen it already*, & then go back to the movie itself, & see BURN•E after the space dance with WALL•E & EVE if you never noticed it!

*Or just go here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piG6xi2LyKo & watch it while the link is still up!
