Starting A Team
Hi,
I am looking to start a team because I could not find one near me. I am looking to find help on the process of starting a team. I meet a team and they explained the small process of getting the $6,000 start with sponsors. But if any one could guide me in the process. Also for the teams that are not a high school team, I am looking for books and other resources that we can use to help us learn how to make these robots. Any info will help. Thanks in advance, -Brandon |

Re: Starting A Team
Hi Brandon,
http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/fo...c&daysprune=-1 The above link is going to send you to a section of the forums that is totally dedicated to starting new teams; info you'll need to know, people who can help you etc. Additionally, team 341 has been putting out dvds for years now, to help new teams with things they need to know, deadlines... Also, I would have you talk to other WV teams listed http://usfirst.org/whatsgoingon.aspx . It looks like teams 337, 1249, 2237, and 2614 are all in WV, with 337, 1249 and 2614 all being willing to mentor new teams. I would suggest to contact them for advice on WV specific information. Good luck! |

Re: Starting A Team
www.firstrinos.org has a ton of resources for new teams compiled into various source lists and links. You might want to try there.

Re: Starting A Team
I/we (RD for MA, FSM for CT and I) did a seminar for a new team yesterday and one of the things we told them was they needed three websites: www.usfirst.org, www.chiefdelphi.com and www.firstnemo.org. Those three places alone have a wealth of information readily available to you in your quest.
Team 25's RINOS (Rookies in Need of Support), and 341's Team in a Box are also excellent sources. |

Re: Starting A Team
Every resource mentioned so far is great.
If you would like a free copy of the "Team in a Box" DVD just go to www.team341.com and click on the T.I.A.B. banner at the bottom. There you will find an online order form. We will send a copy ASAP. Version 4.0 has just been completed and will be available this week. In addition to all of the resources mentioned in this thread the most important thing you can do is to find a team close to your area that will directly mentor you. Nothing can replace direct interaction with other experienced teams. Good Luck! |

I am coordinator for team 1249 and willing to help you get started. We are in southern WV and would be glad to visit and demo our robots and explain things to you.

Re: Starting A Team
This will hopefully point you in the right direction with starting a robotics team.
http://www.mentorsearch.us/training This is the application page we are giving all the new Texas teams, but many items are similar to other states. http://apply.txfirst.org/ |

Re: Starting A Team
Also look into the FRC Resources page.
In particular, check out the 2007 President's Circle information, which focused on collecting resources for new teams. |

Re: Starting A Team
What state are you in? If you happen to be in Michigan we can get you the initial $6,000.00. We have a number of wondeful people who will donate that for a new team. Because of these people we are able to start numerous teams every year. Not only do you get the $6,000.00 but we provide tech support for you as well. If a team is having problems we find you a source of support.

Regardless, other teams can help you. Contact them for help. Oh, yeah... all the teams are high school teams. Some, however, have lots of mentors to help that they will gladly share. |

Re: Starting A Team
hey, we are starting a new team
we are on our way to the development 1. are you a student / adult. Student should always first contact your school administration 2. cotnact your regional office 3. meet with the representive from the FIRST regional this is how we worked with the FIRST orgranziation we are doing the rookie development now, organzing ourselves and doing as much as we can hope this is going to help you (though the post has been a while...) but I am sure there are people still coming here and ask a similar question |
