2008 IRI Charity Auction
Once again, the IRI will feature a "Silent Auction" of FIRST related items and other special gifts. All of the money raised from the auction goes directly to local charities, usually one in Indianapolis and one in Kokomo.
For 2008, the funds will be split between the American Red Cross, to help provide disaster relief to areas of the midwest hit hard by flooding, and the Howard County Relay for Life, a fundraising event to support cancer research through the American Cancer Society. We always have some surprises appear from generous donations at the event, but here are a few of the items we know about right now. (Bring your cash or your checkbook - no credit cards and no IOU's accepted )2008 FIRST Teams Shirt Handmade Quilt FIRST Overdrive Game Ball, signed by several FIRST Headquarters personnel Autodesk Rolling Computer Bag / Backpack DeWalt 12V 3/8" Heavy Duty Driver / Drill Signed Chief Delphi "Web Hug" shirt from the 2008 Championship Limited Edition "IRI Bucket Hat" There will also be some special IRI and FIRST buttons sold at the event, with all proceeds going to the charity auction fund. |

Re: 2008 IRI Charity Auction
Sounds like a lot of fun for a good cause. Good work organizing all of this...now if only I wasn't spending all my cash on gas to get down there

Re: 2008 IRI Charity Auction
Awesome thanks to everyone who donated items and everyone who purchased items in the Charity Auction.
We raised over $1700 from the auction, and almost $1200 from "kiss the pig", all going to Red Cross Disaster Relief and Howard County Relay for Life. In addition, 78 backpacks will help a big group of 2nd graders get off to a great start in school this fall. ![]() |

Re: 2008 IRI Charity Auction
Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the winning bid was on the quilt this year?

I ended up obtaining the very unique framed and autographed Andy-Mark sprockets. Comforting to know I have some spare parts hanging on my wall if I need them.... "In Case of Sprocket Emergency, Break Glass." ![]() I'd try to get our Team 48 parent to donate the checkered flag everyone (and I do mean everyone) signed this year (thank you, by the way) to next year's auction, but I don't think she will relinquish it that easily! Re: 2008 IRI Charity Auction
My daughter's FLL team did exactly that. They needed a particular size gear, which they couldn't find. Then they noticed a trophy from a previous season on the shelf with just the right part ... nab it!

Re: 2008 IRI Charity Auction
I hope we can get pics up of some of the wonderful items that were on the aucton one inparticlular comes to mind, it was a piece of acryllic cut into a first logo and colored the FRC logo colors. I believe waterjet cutting of Indiana made the piece and Ms.Baker won it. The logo and stand it was on was absolutely gorgeous.

Re: 2008 IRI Charity Auction
Yeah the quilt went for $244 and is currently on my bed. It was my graduation present. For the first time in the 3 years that my father has made a stain glass window, it went for more money than the quilt, making my dad who couldn't attend IRI this year really happy.

Re: 2008 IRI Charity Auction
I bought the stained glass. We love it. It's home is not far from you. We live in Pontiac. I would like to meet your father some day. Your mom gave me their email address. Let your dad know it went to a good home.

Re: 2008 IRI Charity Auction
As it is every year, the stained glass FIRST window looked amazing. How much time actually goes into making this every year?
