Posted by Travis Covington at 1/8/2001 12:40 AM EST

Student on team #115, MV ROBOTICS, from Monta Vista High School and Hitachi Data Systems - 3com - NASA Ames.

am i correct at figuring that you can recieve that many points (1267.2) with YOUR big ball on top another big ball on top of the other goal... both goals on ramp balanced... and all 4 bots across the endzone..UNDER 30 seconds??

sound right?? or am i missing or adding something??

thx

Travis

3 x 2 x 2 = 12 max multiplier

40pts [black balls] + 20pts [big balls] + 40pts [bots in the endzone] + 10pts [stretcher] = 110pts possible

110 x 12 = 1320

1320 x 1.1 [bonus] = 1452pts possible [not really enough room for all 40 black balls, though]

more likely would be something like this:

20pts [black balls] + 20pts [big balls] + 40 pts [bots in endzone] + 10pts [stretcher] = 90pts

90 x 12 = 1080

1080 x 1.1 [bonus] = 1188pts possible [way tough, but at least 20 black balls can fit into the goals]

hope that helps

I think there is something missing from your points, there are 4 large balls, one for each of the teams, 4 teams in an alliance.

40pts [black balls] + 40pts [big balls] + 40pts [bots in the endzone] + 10pts [stretcher] = 130pts possible

: 3 x 2 x 2 = 12 max multiplier

: 40pts [black balls] + 20pts [big balls] + 40pts [bots in the endzone] + 10pts [stretcher] = 110pts possible

: 110 x 12 = 1320

: 1320 x 1.1 [bonus] = 1452pts possible [not really enough room for all 40 black balls, though]

In order to score more than 900 Q-points (w/o bonus) you have to score more than 90 pts and balance both goals in less than 60 seconds. Very, very, very low probability there!

Just think again carefully - balance 2 goals full of balls!

Many people have done the calculation. But let's look at it one more time. I believe that several scoring factors are what's causing the different number. So, let's start with the multipliers: x4 for balancing two goal on the bridge, x3 for under 30 seconds, and x1.1 for you own big ball on top (qualifying rounds)

Since we are talking about Max score, we will assume all there robots are in the end zone with a stretcher - 50pts, then the two big ball with 20 pts.
Then the as for the smaller balls, we will think of a range from 10 balls to 14 balls- 10 ~14 pts

Qualifing rounds: (50+20+20~28) x4x3x1.1 = 90~98*(13.2)
= 1188~1293.6 pts

Elimination rounds: (50+20+20~28) x4x3 = 90~98*12
=1080~1176 pts

I don't know about the rest of you, but we're not shooting that high. for our current strategy, 200-300 seems like a good score. What are ya'all coming up with for reasonable numbers?

I think (24+10+30)*2*2*1.1=282 is about the highest score most teams will see. So 200-300 sounds great to me.
My guess for the actual highest score in the whole season is around (24+20+30)*4*1.5*1.1=488.
