For the most part, yes, but simply remove the vowels and it becomes unreadable. Lots of research on this topic, google it.

Why does it come to a complete shock to me that the only words I had a problem with (in the statement that is; not the website itself - that's just a jumble) were phenomenal & first.

Phenomenal isn't a common enough word for me to recognize right off the bat as a jumble, & "frist" just seems like a real word to me when written that way since it makes perfect sense phonetically.
