Re: Team 228's Country Fair BBQ Fundraisers

What do a bunch of yankees know about BBQ?

I will admit the cheese & bacon fries sound interesting and the SE&C on a bagel... mmm I'm trying to teach the good ol boys down here about bagels.
They call them stale donuts

Now you got me hungry!

Come up north and see for yourself.

I loved this at wolcott. Hopefully I'll be able to attend one of these events.

The trick is to slow cook it over the hickory wood.

That's exactly how we do it - minimum 8-12 hours in the hickory wood smoker with apple cider broth to keep the pork moist. Although our pulled pork is closer to Texas/Tennessee-style than Carolina-style, as we don't use vinegar or any other acidic means to tenderize the pork. Whether this is better than Carolina-style BBQ is up to personal choice, but either way it sure is good!

Just because we're north of the Mason Dixon line doesn't mean we don't know our way around a barbeque.

Do you have the robots out for show or any videos or other team information? Seems like this would be a great opportunity for some community outreach and recruiting.

by the way.....we love our GUS alum

We try bring one of our robots to some of the events where it's allowed, like the Meriden Daffodil Festival. At others, because of space restrictions, fire code regulations (might impede possible exits), or fair rules, we hang banners instead.

Although I like the video idea, as surprisingly that hasn't been thought of yet. Our team has an older G4 iMac that takes up little space and is perfect for showing videos, which is what we like to do at Regionals in the pit. I'll pass that along back to the GUS to check if the upcoming fair rules would allow it.

Why doesn't the Woodstock fair extend their days of operation to Labor Day as well? Such a missed opportunity to bring in another day's worth of people.
Oh wells, I'll still try & make it to that 4-town fair in any case.

Good luck & have fun this weekend GUS!

Elgin, they do!

Fair hours Monday are 9:00 AM until 6:00 PM. We're down in the horse showing area below the main fair grounds. If you're in the main fairground exit the North Gate and walk down the road about 100 yards, you can't miss 800 horses. The horse showing events end sometime between 2:00 and 3:00 PM so I'm not sure how much longer than 3:00 we'll be serving. Business was slow on Friday (most people working or in school), Saturday was steady (some people probably scared off by the overcast skies), Sunday and Monday should be perfect just like our food.

Hmm... maybe we'll have to head over to the 4 town fair tonight for some BBQ! Where's your booth?
