Goal Construction

Posted by Gary Bonner at 1/12/2001 11:55 AM EST

Other on team #433, MINT, from Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Pew Foundation.

The plans indicate a radius of 12.5 inches for the flange bases on the goal. Is that to the center or edge of the flange?

What’s a good source for the schedule 40 Al pipe?

Thanks

It looks like the 12.5" radius is to the center of the flanges. But it isn't 100% clear.

The quickest source for the Al pipe is McMaster-Carr. They take credit card orders, and you will have it in one day (most of the time). They are not cheap though. Their web site is http://www.mcmaster.com/

Good luck,
Rob

Save yourself some money buy investing in steel sch 40 rather than aluminum. Steel is far more common. FIRST uses aluminum to save the backs of those who move the fields from event to event. You actually need steel for the Bridge so CG isn't an issue. The only piece of aluminum sch 40 pipe that I see "used" in the game is P11 on the Goals. Everything else is just a boundry device.

The steel pipe is also stronger when students use the court as a play gym.

Alum is a waste of cash! Save the bucks for pizza.
