What are we allowed to use for pneumatics. There is the stuff in the pneumatics, plus we get four cylinders from FPDA. I know the rules say no custom pneumatics can be used, but is there a limit to what off-the-shelf items we can use?

Pneumatic cylinders are not in the Additional Hardware List, so you may not use off-the-shelf cylinders.

As you mentioned, building custom pneumatic parts are not allowed either.

As far as I know, you can't use pneumatic parts from SPI either, though I can't quote a rule without spending time researching it.

In other words, only the pneumatic parts included in the kit and the 4 cylinders from the FPDA are allowed, unless someone knows something that I don't about SPI.

Joe's right about the fact that you cannot make any other pneumatic device. We've wanted to make PVC cylinders for years!

I'm sure that we can use the pneumatic fittings from Small Parts. We've used them in the past, and we'll probably be using them again this year. I suggest using the plastic barb fittings where you can. They are small and have almost no weight.

Make the pneumatic circuit as the catalog says to do... it only takes you a few hours, and you'll get to know how these pneumatics work.

ps... you can all blame us for the restriction about not making any of your own compressed air products. In '92, we made our own air pump and shot a tennis-ball-grabber across the field with enough energy to scare FIRST. In '93, we could not make anything that contained or produced compressed air.

Rule M14 specifically states: You may not use materials from SMALL PARTS INC (tubing, fittings, etc.) for pneumatics.

Oops! I missed that one. I should think twice before saying that I'm sure about something.

Not being able to use Small Parts fittings makes no sense to me. I'll wait until later to rant about this.
