Mike,

You can use all 13 motors in the kit, but no more, therefore you can use ONLY the motors in the kit. You may of course, use fewer.

Mike, Try not to use all of them on one wheel!

Really, only use what is necessary to get the task done no more. Remember certain motors require certain controls, victors, spikes.

does anyone know exactly WHERE on the manual it says how many we can use? I looked around for a while and it didnt say ... so i guess that means as much as we want...? or at least everything that's in the kit.

There is a rule that tells you where you can get stuff
to make your robot: In the kit handed out at the
kickoff, from Small Parts Inc (subject to $ limits) and
from the Additional Hardware List.

Also, there are rules about what can be hooked up to
carry electricity and how it must be hooked up (even to
the point of what color & gage wires must be used with
which motors).

Finally, I know of no rule that says that XXX cannot be
used if YYY is used.

Taken together, these things limit your motors to
the 13 motors handed out at the kick off (not counting
the pump as a
motor) but they do not limit teams to only using a
subset of the motors.

I am interested to learn how the idea that only a
subset of the 13 could be used is defended based on a
reasoned reading of the rules.

Joe J.

hehe, i do not recall seeing a rule on this one.... not that i had any plans. it would be nice to mount some wheels on those bins though and see if the green goblin outruns the red rover!

But yes, I do agree and wonder how / why someone would have come up with a subset of 13 as a limitation. It was rather misleading at first, but now that it has been clarified, I guess we can make an EXTRA ARM!!! (that delivers pizza)....

I am certain that I read a rule that says you cannot use the plastic cases or the cardboard tube or any other packing materials in the kit.

Oh oh Anton...that rules out the frame made of packing peanuts. Guess we gotta start from square one again.
