Re: 2009 Silicon Valley Regional
I recall a certain human player touching the robot while loading floppies and getting us DQd
or something like that. It may have only been a penalty?Last edited by Travis Covington : 08-10-2008 at 16:26. |

Re: 2009 Silicon Valley Regional
We would like to be a "small struggling" team and win 9 of 10 regionals.

Re: 2009 Silicon Valley Regional
As posted it was 254, but there were no second picks in 1999.

Re: 2009 Silicon Valley Regional
Nut uh...
If I recall correctly, there were 3 or 4 weekends of Regionals. During the last weekend, FIRST made the announcement that each alliance could pick another round of alliance selection, therefore having 3 teams in each alliance. We had a 2 team alliance in Chicago at the Midwest Regional. Our alliance at Great Lakes was 292, 45, 235. Our alliance at Championships was 45, 111, 84. People talk about "changing the rules" being a bad thing. This was not. 1999 was brutal, and FIRST decided to give each alliance a backup robot. Andy B. |

I do believe the alliances were only 2 teams at the NASA Ames Regional in 99 though. |

Re: 2009 Silicon Valley Regional
Not that this really matters, but in 1999 / 2000 it was officially the NASA Ames Regional. However, many people in this area of the FIRST community referred to it as the NASA Ames Western Regional or just Western Regional since it was the only event anywhere near the west coast. Also, at least in 2000, since the event wasn't held at NASA Ames Research Center it could have been seen by many not to have been "their" Regional, despite their massive funding of it.
2001 was the first official naming of the "Silicon Valley Regional," and the beginning of FIRST's event expansion to other cities on the west coast... or just anywhere west of Texas, really. This nuance doesn't really matter, though. It's the same event, just different names at different points. |

I'm sure the sponsors care.

Re: 2009 Silicon Valley Regional
I can't think of too many regionals anymore that have sponsors in the name. 3, to be exact, though I might be missing one. (Hmm... You're still sponsored by NASA/Ames, right, Cory? I'd think 254 gets their name out better than a regional would
