How do you connect optical sensor?

Posted by Joe Ross at 1/17/2001 5:01 AM EST

Engineer on team #330, Beach Bot, from Hope Chapel Academy and NASA/JPL , J&F Machine, and Raytheon.

The picture on page 12 of the robot section shows the black and white wires connected directly to the switch inputs on the Robot Controller. I was looking at the data sheet included with the sensor (you can also find it online: http://www.baneng.com/pubfiles/63908.pdf) and saw that the sensor requires a load on the black and white wires. My question is, does the robot controller provide this load, in which case we wire the sensor exactly as is shown in the competition manual, or do we need to provide a load?

Has anyone hooked their's up yet?

Joe-

Without looking at it... i am fairly sure that you can just hook it up exactly as it says in the manual:

Blue - Pin 3 (Ground)
Brown - +12 Vdc (From breaker)
Black - Pin 15 (Switch Input 3)
White - Pin 16 (Switch Input 4)

Good luck...

Tom

PS: i have not hooked ours up yet, so i am not completely sure on this
