A water game would be crazy fun! Wow...totally expensive though.

Re: an unusual observation

That'd have to have waterfoils, wouldn't they? I don't think a hovercraft would go that fast.
Then again, how do you stop a boat going at 40 mph? You can't swamp it, and you can't make it skip out of the water.

What happened? Did everyone else suddenly find out what the game was going to be or what?

No, just more endless speculation. It gives us something to do while we wait for Kickoff. If you hang around you get used to it. Though we do seem to have a love-hate relationship with the idea of a "water game". It always comes up and is dismissed for a variety of reasons. It would present a number of interesting challenges which makes it so attractive. Of course, the idea of shooting things came up regularly too, and was usually dismissed as well .... until 2006

Well, I can definitely understand shooting things, but why not catching things as well? Talk about challenging!

There you go again, giving the Game Design Committee fiendish ideas. You do realize that at least some of them read CD right?

I always envision members of the GDC kicked back in comphy chairs, snacking on donuts or fruit and sipping their beverage of choice - Diet Coke, steaming coffee, yummy apple cider... and they chuckle as they read through the thread suggestions. Then, they tip back the lid on their Pandora's Box, rummage through it and say, "ah yes, that was a good idea...", smile, tuck the idea back down in the box and continue snacking and sipping, smiling contentedly in their Cheshire Cat way.

But that's just me.

I would call it Jax in a Box.
Teams would start (spring) from a boxed and walled initial footprint just large enough for 3 machines.
Numerous standard sized blue and red Jax would be used as playing pieces. Pieces would be scored by placing them in boxes. Most boxes would be large enough for them to easily fit into (2 points), however each team would have a bonus box that the Jax would just barely fit into if oriented just right (10 pts).

As a bonus teams would have to fit their robots into a box just barely larger than the start configuration. 1 machine 5 points, 2 machines 10 points, 3 machines 25 points.

Re: an unusual observation

Y'know, I really can't help it. I'm the lead programmer designing what could be the most awesome high-level autonomous setup; assuming I get it it done before January, I'll have to have something programmatically challenging to deal with.

Did you send this to Dean? Cause you probably should, if they're running out of ideas.[/sarcasm]

I am sure that either an FRC or FTC will or has done something like this. I think it would be a fun game to do the everybody crowd into a phone booth finish. Have the judges come out with the slider to see who is in and who is out of the box.

But how would you know who put them in? Would you have jacks for your alliance? Or just jacks for everyone? or would you have to put the jacks into your teams "box?" I still think its a good idea.
