Stretcher/goal issues-- PLEASE HELP ME!

Posted by colleen - T190 at 1/21/2001 2:52 PM EST

Engineer on team #190, Gompei, from Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science and WPI.

Hey y'all--

We built our stretcher and goal according to those lovely blueprints included in the manual (right next to the blueprints of the robot that came with it :-P)

Basically.. we're having issues about how far away the horizontal bar on both are from the edge of the plywood. Looking at kickoff pictures, it seems the kee klamps are right on the edge, but according to the drawing they are in a different place. What did everyone else do.. it's something we need to know ASAP.

Thanks so much...
Colleen

As I understand it, the goals they used at Kickoff are wrong. The goal bases were originally about 34" wide and now are about 36" (don't remember the exact numbers). But, just do what the print says; that's what we did.

In the first goal we made, with the 34+ inch base, the aluminum pipe touched the vertical pipe. When we rebuilt it with the 36+ inch base the aluminum pipes were well away from the vertical pipes. The drawings that came with the kit are wrong (per FIRST); use the drawings dated 1/8/2001 on FIRST's documentation page on their web site: http://www.usfirst.org/2001comp/Docs/

Before you build make sure you have CURRENT documentation. This is a problem even in the real world, get used to it. We tossed all of our Rev 1 drawings to make sure we didn't get confused. It is also important to remember that documentation changes can happen through Team Updates as well as drawing changes.

Colleen-

We built our goal according to the plans at first, but it looked messed up (poles all bent inward towards the bottom.) So we moved the kee klamps for the grabby-bar-thing right to the edge and the poles out until they lined up. Hope you figure it out.

Janna

Hello.

Although I can't be sure as to the exact nature of your problem, I can say this: The blue prints that came with the manual are in some way inaccurate for the stretcher, as stated by team update #1. The new blueprints are in the competition documentation section of the FIRST website, under "Playing Field".

Hope it helps.

Well, just be sure you don't confuse the blood with the lines on the blueprints. What? No of course I didn't do that.........

Matt who let someone else build the goal
