news to me!

Engineer on team #47, Chief Delphi, from Pontiac Central High School and Delphi Automotive Systems. In Reply to: questions about delphi teams? Posted by noah schayowitz on 1/22/2001 6:45 PM EST: Seeing as how the Chief Delphi team has not managed to start construction yet, it was definitely not a competition using the 2001 robots! I know nothing of the Delphi Regional you speech of. As to our not cutting any metal yet, we will fix that soon enough, but for now we are trying a new strategy for us: "build it in the computer 100% before you start to cut or weld anything" It is beginning to make me nerveous, but intellectually I know it is the right thing to do. I just hope my emotions can be kept in check as I see the calendar slipping by. . . . 4 weeks left! 4 weeks left! ONLY FOUR WEEKS LEFT!#$!?@# . . . Breath deep . . . Chief Delphi will be just fine... Chief Delphi will be just fine... Chief Delphi will be just fine... . . . Joe J. |

Posted by Joe Johnson on 1/22/2001 8:47 PM EST: Joe, Some how, I, and I think I probably speak for the most of the FIRST community when I say, we're not to worried about Chief Delphi...having a robot that is. Facing them...well that might be another story. ;-) Justin |

oh my...

Student on team #192, Gunn Robotics Team, from Henry M. Gunn Senior High School. In Reply to: news to me! Posted by Joe Johnson on 1/22/2001 8:47 PM EST: Chief Delphi sounds undefeatable this year... First there is Joe Johnson who knows everything, then there are custom made sprocket/chain comming out of steel plates, after that is the that mysterious base promised to be a surprise this year, and of course there are the high prediction from joe about # of robor crossing without the bridge, and now... didn't start cutting metal yet, the whole robot completed in the computer... while it's only 2 weeks into the competition... And that's making YOU nervous!?!? I am starting to sweat all over my head just sitting here thinking about it. I won't be surprised if the your robot fly toward the end zone, some how got all the black balls inside the goal, put the two filled goals on the bridge and balance, and somehow stack 4 big balls on top of that, and finally carry the other three robot to the end zone and all hit the stop button after 28.041 seconds into the game. |

Engineer on team #5, Robocards, from Melvindale, MI and AFL (Alcoa Fujikura Ltd). In Reply to: news to me! Posted by Joe Johnson on 1/22/2001 8:47 PM EST: Team 5 has drawn everything in CAD for the past two years before starting to cut metal, and while this is very tedious, it has paid off in assembly and performance. (Note that this only works if you have the resources to manufacture to close tolerances -- no jigsaws and files unless you want to drive yourself batty) Good luck to the Chief!! Hope the effort is worth it for you. P.S. Joe, I have a good source for some inhalers if you need them. Other on team #73, Tigerbolt, from Edison Technical HS and Alstom & Rochester Institute of Technology. In Reply to: questions about delphi teams? Posted by noah schayowitz on 1/22/2001 6:45 PM EST: That would've been a rather small regional given that at my last count (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) there are only 9 Delphi teams. That's not even enough to make two full alliances...... Matt |
