Stategy Debate: Goals Horizontal vs Goals Vertical

Posted by Mark at 1/23/2001 8:05 PM EST

Student on team #41, Warrior Robotics, from Watchung Hills Regional HS and Cordis.

The way I see it is this:
Goals Horizontal:

-Bonus of getting two big balls on the sides with the option of getting some black balls inside the horizontal goal.
-Can't drive across bridge with a horizontal goal

Goals Vertical:
-Bonus of carrying more black balls.
-One big ball per goal
-Easier to handle bridge-wise.

Any other advantages or disadvantages to either? Right now our team is leaning toward vertical.

Point blank:

You have to tip over TWO goals in order to get TWO large balls to balance on the sides, or develop some method for your robot to hold the vertical goal on one cover to make a flat surface (a horizontal goal settled on the ground has no way of holding the large ball)

Two on top of two goals, or two on the side of two goals pushed together..

Vertical much more easier, efficient... i don't know.. more logical to me.. many less mechanisms.. same end result.. (also a time saver i would perceive)

Just when I was getting scared that only losers were doing vertical. Now that we have what looks like a pretty good balancing mechanism, vertical is much easier for us.
We did have fun testing out horizontal possibilities though...
