Securing the Driver Station?

Leave it to me to ask the stupid questions.

By what method are we expected to attach the Driver Station to the control boards that most teams build?

Not a stupid question.

Being discussed here.

Good question! I bet heavy-duty velcro would work well.

Re: Securing the Driver Station?

It turns out that the holes on pieces of VEX angle match up with the cover mounting screws on the new FRC Drivers Station. Two pieces of VEX angle (one in back and one in front) make a simple and sturdy mount for the DS. Just take a piece of VEX angle, trim to length, and screw it in place.

(for all those that prefer to secure their Drivers Station with a little bit of irony).

That was included in the kit, as opposed to the one held together with hot glue that the beta teams got.

There's another picture on page 8 of section 3 of the manual.

Re: Securing the Driver Station?

Looking at the competion switch I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put a cover over it so it can't be knocked?

I was thinking closed over the top of the dongle with the end open so you can operate it with your finger.

Also what is the viewing angle like on the DS? Can both drivers see thre LCD easily when standing side by side?

Dave,

I noticed you said to put one in the front and the back. On my DS there is a warranty sticker on one of the screws on the back that says something along the lines on "if broken warranty void" (I cant remember the exact wording). I am assuming we should not break that to put a piece of angle bracket on the back side. I will give this a try when I can get my hands on the DS again but to those who have already done this is one angle bar enough, i would think so but I have to ask ?

Just make the angle in the back a short piece (~1" or so), and make use of the one screw that is not covered by the warranty sticker. You will then have three very solid attachment points, and should be fine.

Re: Securing the Driver Station?

Double sided foam tape works well. I've hung entire 4'x8' whiteboards with only six pieces of 1/2" wide.

But while the topic is above the driver station design, the lack of mounting holes, as well as the male pins that stick 1/8" outside of the box (without any metal tabs or anything to protect them) is really annoying. Female pins would have been much nicer (or at the very least recessed male pins), as they don't get bent. Although
