LabView installation from package from FIRST

Our team just got the shipment of the controls parts for this years competition- but there is one thing I have a question for-
If we already downloaded and installed LabView 8.6 from the NI website, can we just take the drivers for FRC off the cd provided by FIRST and just use them?? Or is the cd for LabView that comes in the shipment a special version of LabView that we have to install over the regular 8.6 that we have had before hand??

Thanks for those who help~

You do not have to uninstall the old one before you install the new one
You do not have to install the old one before you install the new one.

Basically, it does not matter whether or not you have the old software, just install the new one.

Re: LabView installation from package from FIRST

I think Pikat is assuming you're using the 8.5.1 Labview from the FIRST website. If you're using 8.5.1, he's correct and you can install over it and everything will be nice.

If, as you've said, you actually downloaded a demo version of Labview 8.6, you MUST uninstall that if you want things to work. The FIRST software is based on 8.5.1, and may not install correctly over an 8.6 installation.

If you're unsure just what you've done, you can just uninstall everything you've already installed and start from scratch. You can't screw anything up that way, atleast.

Re: LabView installation from package from FIRST

FIRST is using a special FRC version of Labview 8.5.1...I am pretty sure that 8.6 will need to be removed. I would just wipe off any labview software, and download it right off the CD

Oh, sorry. I thought Skipwich was talking about the 8.5.1 from the FIRST website, because that was what I did. I stand corrected.

Re: LabView installation from package from FIRST

My understanding was the LabVIEW 8.6 and 8.5.1 would coexist peacefully if installed to different directories. The only conflict I heard of was if you had the 8.6 version of the Real-Time Module, then you would not be able to install the FRC version. Otherwise, you should be in the clear.

Maybe someone from NI could correct me if I am wrong. It might be a good idea to post this to the Beta Forum if you haven't already.

Re: LabView installation from package from FIRST

If all you have is LabVIEW 8.6 installed on your system you will be able to install the LabVIEW FRC package (from the DVD ) with any conflict issues.

We have seen conflicts on machines that also have LabVIEW Real-Time, Vision, and/or NI-RIO. If you have anything on your machine in addition to LabVIEW Full (drivers, LabVIEW modules, toolkits, etc) I would recommend uninstalling everything before installing the LabVIEW FRC package.

Cheers,
Mark
