FIRST as "Pop Culture"

Imbedded in the Game hint thread is the jewel that the Wiki definition of an Opah includes a reference to FIRST in the pop culture section.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opah#In_Pop_Culture

I'm not sure who added the reference, but whoever you are, you are awesome!

I don't think I've ever been actually affiliated with something that is considered "Pop Culture" before!

Talking Re: FIRST as "Pop Culture"

I hate to burst your bubble, but most of the "pop culture" references on Wikipedia are things that the main-stream pop culture affectionatos would think of as geeky.

With that said, I fall into a lot of the Wikipedia pop culture references and this is yet another one that I am proud to be a part of.

Thumbs up Re: FIRST as "Pop Culture"

Looks like someone at the IP address 208.65.90.13 started it by first putting it on the wikipeida page (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?...ldid=255935156 for the first revision of it)

The IP address GeoLocates to Roswell, Georgia (See: http://www.infosniper.net/index.php?...s=208.65.90.13) . A city approx. 22 Miles north of Atlanta.

According to the FIRST team list FRC Team 832 is located in Roswell. So, most likely a team member form 832, put this on wikipeida!

Other Possible teams that could Geo locate to Roswell:
FRC 1379
FRC 1127
FRC 1683
FRC 2974

And a few others that could be, but not likely, check the new FIRST teams map in the "Whats Going On In My Area?" Section.

Whoever did this, Good Job!

Also the wikipeida user Synth3tk did a bunch of edits to the section to make it more readable, so props to them too!
Unfortunately, the user does not have a user page, so i could not get any more info about the user from wikipedia.
Googling the UN is another story:
Synth3tk is also a UN on Chief Delphi from team 964 in Ohio. Synth3tk, if you were the one who edited the section, props to you!

lol, I feel like I'm being stalked now!!! j/k

Yeah, I made a few edits, including the footnote. I don't have a userpage because I signed up on Wikipedia for the sole purpose of editing that article.

Re: FIRST as "Pop Culture"

"To transform our culture by creating a world where science and technology are celebrated and where young people dream of becoming science and technology heroes."

It may seem insignificant, but I think that being Pop culture is a little bit closer to transforming our culture. Every year that we grow, we, and what we are doing, are more respected in the world at large.

Yet, I do agree that "Pop culture" of wikipedia is geeky. I mean, almost everything that I look up on wikipedia has an XKCD reference in pop culture.

Re: FIRST as "Pop Culture"

Sorry to be the party pooper, but if FIRST was pop culture, a non FIRSTer would have had to insert the wikipedia reference.

Re: FIRST as "Pop Culture"

Not necessarily. Pop culture is just part of what defines peoples interests as a whole. With the ever growing members of FIRST i totally consider it pop culture. Besides, it makes sense for a member to post it because they know most about it.
