Re: [FTC]: New York Tournament

The tournament had a lot of problems, however, this wasn't something that could really be blamed on those running the tournament. Bluetooth had serious problems and because of it there were only 2 qualifying matches per team. Robots frequently did not move, and while those running the field say that this was not a Field Controller Station issue, so many teams didn't move (and then moved in another match without changing anything, at least according to them) that I don't know what else it could be. Another comment to any future tournament organizers, don't give teams new numbers (they called them table numbers) to use in place of their normal team number. It confused and complicated the entire process.

Here's what I remember

Winning Alliance: Sota Silverbots (I think they are a rookie team), MFS Hawks (#237), and one other team (they were the third ranked alliance)

Inspire Award: MFS Foxes (#110)
Motivate Award: Sota Silverbots (#2850, I think)
Judges Award: UDRI Ampere (#230)
Connect Award: UDRI Tesla (#229)
Inovate Award: Sota Silverbots (I think)

There were other awards and other things that I didn't mention/didn't remember, but all in all a very frustrating tournament. Normally tournaments are an insane amount of fun, there were so many problems that this tournament was more of a chore then anything else (our robot was put on the field to drive a grand total of 3 times and one of those times our robot ran autonomously but did not run RC {our robot ran just fine when it was tested using bluetooth and the FMS before the match by another tech person}). I certainly hope that they get this all sorted out before too long.

One final note, there was a FIRST representative there and I asked her about the process for qualifying for Atlanta. She said that the first picks of the winning alliance would be entered into a lottery (like last year) and that there was at least a 50% chance of the first pick getting to qualify, and she thinks it would probably be better. There are more regionals this year, but as was last year some teams will take multiple of the automatic berths (freeing up more slots for the lottery).
