Basic wireless question

A very basic question. We are bench testing, all went well until going wireless. Are we supposed to instal the router and gaming adapter software provided with them in order to configure them??

NO.

Do not install the provided software on your computer. You will be configuring the hardware manually using a web browser.

Re: Basic wireless question

You don't need to.
The most common issue seems to be using the same security settings on both the router and the bridge. The manual fails to cover that and it can trap you.

Re: Basic wireless question

Connect directly to the device you are trying to reach with a regular straight-through ethernet cable.

Set your PC IP address to match the device. That'll be different IP's at different steps in the setup process. Your original PC IP address should work if the router or bridge hasn't been touched yet, or set your PC to 10.13.58.6 if you've gotten past the set that changes the router or bridge IP's to 10.13.58.x

Type these addresses into your web browse:
Bridge--
--http://192.168.1.250 with your default PC IP address
or
--http://10.13.58.1 with your PC set to 10.13.58.6

Router--
--http://192.168.1.1 with your default PC IP address
or
--http://10.13.58.4 with your PC set to 10.13.58.6

You can reset the router and the bridge with a paperclip in a small hole in the back labeled "Reset" to get them back to the default IP addresses.
It'll also reset the default user names and passwords in case something got mistyped. All the settings in the manual will have to be redone.

If all else fails bring the equipment to tomorrow's workshop.

Re: Basic wireless question

Mark McLeod's responce about the security was very helpful to us. Unfortuneatly being a person that is not to computer savvy figuring out what Mark meant and how to fix this problem was still a challenge for me. So let me just go through how we corrected the security issues so that the router does not have a secured signal.

On the pages for the router (blue border) select "wireless"
then select "wireless security"
after this select go to the security mode choices and select "disabled"
then at the bottom "save settings"

Re: Basic wireless question

Just a followup.

Mac Generals problems were traced to the school issue laptop they were attempting to use. They are properly setup now.

Thanks Rob, for the details on fixing the security.

Re: Basic wireless question

In that case you should reset your router/bridge and step through the instructions given in the control system manual.
